Yep. They issued the QO therefore they hold his (NHL) rights for now.

Jim Jamieson ‏@JamiesonCanucks
Agent for #Canucks RFA Dale Weise says will be filing for salary arb. #humbled
Is Weise overestimating his value to the Canucks?

The Canucks are probably low balling due to cap concerns. Don't blame Weise....even an extra $100k is a lot for a player making minimum wage. Plus winning your arb case means you get more next year when they have to send a QO.

I don't blame him. Being a borderline 4th liner, I just don't see him having much bargaining power.

hah^

I didn't know that if Luongo decides to sit out the season that next year his contract becomes void and then he becomes a UFA, that is if the team lets him.

I did not know that either. Interesting, but if the Canucks knew that why didn't they play tat to their advantage and keep CS?

If this is true it certainly gives us an opportunity to get out of his contract and for ownership saves them a ton of buy out money. But hell, who will play goal?

Luo is too smart to sit out. He would be screwing himself. He's on the downward slide in terms of age and there's no one else here. He will be the uncontested no.1 goalie. Meanwhile, which team would take him after he hasn't played for a year?

This isn't the ideal situation for him and I'm sure he has had to do mental gymnastics to be okay with being in Vancouver, but, while it's bizarre, it's the only option for him. I just hope this works out for all concerned.

From Botchford:
Brett Gulliver ‏@bgullly 6 Jul
@botchford hearing if luo sits for a year, contract is void. And is ufa next year, with no cap liability to Canucks. Is this true @TEAM1040

Jason Botchford ‏@botchford 6 Jul
@bgullly correct

Brett Gulliver ‏@bgullly 6 Jul
@botchford so why wouldn't he. One year on the bench for the ability to probs play in tax friendly Florida. $$ losses would not be

Jason Botchford ‏@botchford 6 Jul
@bgullly who said he wasn't doing that? Still hasn't decided yet, so it's clearly an option being seriously considered

Botchford is a moron, as if Lou would walk away from $30mil and

... any chance he has to make the Hall of Fame

... any chance he has to play in the Olympics

... any chance he has to.... win a Cup?

Anyway, I'm hearing Aquaman flew to Florida to tell Luongo Canucks will buy him out compliance style in 2014.

Is anyone else hearing this?? :look:
