$4M AAV first contract after his entry level contract, good thing Tanev's offensive contributions are really low.

http://predators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=673488
Josi ranked 30th among D-men for average icetime in the LEAGUE. He matches up against the top opposition lines every night with his partner Shea Weber. He put up 30+ point pace over 82 games at 23 years of age. He improved significantly from his rookie year from everything I saw.

Tanev quite simply is not comparable to Josi and isn't just lack of offensive contribution but the lack of those extra 6 minutes of icetime a night facing the best opposition. Tanev has been quite the find to be sure but my gut feeling is he is a #5 guy that can step up to the top 4 in times of injury. a 18-20 minute a night guy rather than a 23-25 minute a night guy. And that is the difference between a guy who can demand a long term $4 mil a year deal and a guy who will likely get $1.3 mil per on a year or two deal.
I hope all the other GM's in the league agree with you. But, all it takes is one guy to make an offer sheet for Tanev and his price could easily be in the 2-3 million range.

Pretty cheap price to pay for an offensive D Man.

What will Mr. G do this season..... the million dollar question.

Streit is due to be UFA July 5th. The Flyers have 3 wks to convince the 35 yr old otherwise.

A calculated risk. Their strategy worked for acquiring Timmonen, Hartnell and Bryzgalov.
Maybe it worked too well ... buyer beware. :look:

Indeed. It also backfired when they acquired Hamhuis for Ryan Parent and a pick.

Streit reportedly turned down 3 years @ 4.75M per and is believed to be looking for north of $5M.

The Flyers are currently $2.5M over the salary cap. We know they'll throw Pronger on LTIR when the season starts, but IIRC they need to be under the cap when the season starts, and THEN can go over by his salary. Smells like buyouts (Bryzgalov) or more trades (Briere, Hartnell?) coming. Giroux is also up for a (major) raise next summer.

This would be a good time for a capologist to be negotiating his own contract.

With Gonchar getting 2 years 10 million... Steit is laughing right to the bank.

Gonchar: 39 years old, 2013: 45GP, 3G, 24A, 27Pts Playoffs: 10GP, 0G, 6A, 6Pts.

Streit: 35 years old, 2013: 48GP, 6G, 21A, 27Pts. Playoffs: 6GP, 2G, 3A, 5Pts.

It will be funny seeing the Flyers paying 11-12M next year to two d-men who's age totals 73 (Timonen is 38)

Bobby Mac tweeted earlier today that it is believed that the Flyers are getting ready to buyout Bryz and Briere.

Snyder is a maniac with his money. Seemingly Aqualini does not share his penchants for Buy Outs, or to put it lightly - 'Sweeping your GM's mistakes under the Buy Out Carpet.'

Seen that they said Gonchar can help with the young kids, me thinks they are just going to flip him at the deadline for a 1st or 2nd rounder. :|

Good signing by Dallas.

Newsy Lalonde calls him the best passing defenseman he's ever played against

his defensive partner was Jack Marshall...

Malkin's raise doesn't kick in until the 2014-15 season.

Evidently the Pens are counting on the cap going back up substantially. Though I don't believe they are the only ones thinking this.

The players have never declined to use their option to bump the cap 5% each season, as far as I know they still have that option so barring a huge drop in HRR I'd expect that line of thought to bear out.
