A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

Darling Scott essentially goes from NHL minimum wage to $4.15M x 4!
What is it with Hurricanes + goaltenders?
28-yr-old career backup... looks like they didn't learn anything from the Lack fiasco.
Now Darling may turn out to be a decent #1... but did they have to pay $16.6M to find out?

Vegas signs Top KHL centre Vadim Shipachyov - $4.5M x 2.
Now they're talking to his linemate Evgenii Dadonov.
Very good moves, NHL teams have been pursuing these two for a coupla years...

We all know how Chef Boi RD feels about the deal. What would make this discussion interesting is how IslandFarmHouse feels about the trade now compared to how he felt about it when it was made?Island Nucklehead wrote:Darling signs in Carolina. 4 years, $16.6M.
Cue Dude rant about Benning getting a great deal....
Feel free to enlighten us

Considering what similar goalies went for that day, Benning could've done better.RoyalDude wrote:We all know how Chef Boi RD feels about the deal. Not sure why you thought I was freaking out so badly...

Way to go, Jim.
You thought Lack=Dubnyk.Island Nucklehead wrote:Hockey Widow wrote: Anyone see what SJS got for Niemi? We thought our return for Lack was shit.
Well he can already negotiate speak with with anyone and is a UFA in 4 days, so I'm not sure how it's comparable to Lack, at all. I guess 7th rounders are the going rate for goalies rights, and a 3rd is the going rate for a 1 season rental.

Islanders reportedly set to offer an 8 Year deal to Tavares to be signed as soon as he is eligible to sign the extension.

The New York Islanders are likely to offer John Tavares an eight-year deal worth approximately $10 million annually, should he decide a long-term contract with the team, per Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Tavares’ current deal expires in 2018, though Staple reports that Tavares will inform general manager Garth Snow “sometime in the next month” if he is willing to commit to the Islanders long term.
Staple also says that Tavares underwent surgery about a month ago to fix some lingering issues with his right hand, but he is expected to be ready for next season.
Tavares recorded a team-high 28 goals and 38 assists this past year.

Dallas acquires the rights to Ben Bishop. They trade a 4th round pick formerly belonging to Montreal. Good pick up for them. Glad Calgary is out, one hopes. Maybe we can get a 4th for Miller.

My Dallas plans are becoming a reality..Hockey Widow wrote:Dallas acquires the rights to Ben Bishop. They trade a 4th round pick formerly belonging to Montreal. Good pick up for them. Glad Calgary is out, one hopes. Maybe we can get a 4th for Miller.
Benning could make a small move of trading Edler + #5 for #3 + (cap dump Niemi, that's gonna cost Dallas) and a couple young players.SKYO wrote: If I was Dallas I'd trade a 3rd rounder for Bishop's rights.
Sign him big dollars $6.5m x 6.
Trade the #3 pick + Niemi for Alex Edler + Granlund + 2nd rounder.
Sign TJ Oshie 5x5
Benn - Seguin - Granlund
Eakin - Spezza - Oshie
Edler - Klingberg
Hamhuis - Honka
Bishop
Lehtonen
The difference between Canucks and the Avs @ #4 they don't have an Edler type that can play top pairing minutes and defense is the big thing Dallas needs to fix-up, they can buy a UFA forward or two, but defense is much more difficult to fix.
Coincidentally Dallas dman John Klingberg is on Sweden's defense paired with Alex Edler in the World Championships.
So many options between these two teams it's ridiculous, Jimmy B & Jimmy N need to tell their bosses to fuckoff(I mean keep this business not personal) on this one and let em work out a deal.
