Virtanen has shown potential but let's be honest, if he were a prospect for any other team we wouldn't trade a second for him. I'd rather trade him than give up this year's first. Brock Boeser? He hasn't proven anything. Gaunce and Shinkaruk? Maybe that's enough. But Drouin isn't a bust, just not playing. And it was his agent who staged the walk out. Let's remember Calgary called Baertschi a malcontent prima donna too. The kid is unhappy in Tampa for whatever reasons.

I think he ends up in Detroit though, maybe Boston.
Gaunce and Shinkaruk I probably do, albeit begrudgingly. Virtanen would be tough, definitely wouldn't do Virtanen+ ... Virtanen is a local kid and fits the style of team Benning is trying to build, and definitely doesn't seem like a prima donna. It's about fostering a winning culture for Benning - and I like his body of work so far.

If I'm Yzerman I'm trading him west though unless an offer in the east is too good to pass up.

As Bob Murray noted
"Requesting trades on entry level, that's something new for you and I. ... Entry-level players requesting trades. Amazing."
That was before Druin decided he didn't want to play any moore.

Canuck management bent on instilling a strong work ethic in their younger players won't be chasing this prima donna. Folks must really miss the drama queen RK17.

This kid is CoHo's daddy.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Bob Murray is playing possum - trying to drive down the value for Drouin so he can swoop in and make a deal that doesn't involve one of his top defensive prospects.

Stevie Y has basically said to Drouin we will trade you if and when we trade you. Perhaps him being traded is closely linked to whether Stamkos re-signs. They may not want to lose a talent like Drouin until they know Stamkos is coming back.

Rede wrote:I'd offer up Gaunce and a pick. Much more than that is too much for a guy who has proven nothing, feels entitled to a roster spot and didn't put up points in the AHL. Don't get me wrong - would like to have him - but wouldn't give up Horvat, McCann, or Virtanen at this point.

Edit: Perhaps, Shinkaruk rather than Gaunce.
What has any 19 year old player "proven"?

He's proven he's one of the best junior players of his generation, he's proven he had one of the best draft+1 seasons in modern history, and he's proven he can score at nearly a .5 point a game pace in the NHL as a rookie playing in the bottom six. He's also proven they he looks pretty damn talented if you watch him play, which you obviously haven't. He's "proven" a helluva lot more than McCann and fucking Virtanen have, that's for sure.

You guys should just admit you know jack shit about this player. Save yourselves the embarrassment when he's lighting it up in a couple years and making our rookies look like shit.

So you think Drouin will be better than Horvat or McCann?

February 2017 lets revisit this!
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

I think he'll be considerably better than McCann or Virtanen. Horvat is a shitty comparable, they are not similar in any way. I do think he is a first-line player, and Horvat is at best a second-liner.

You never know for sure what will happen with a player this age but his pedigree, his history, and the good ole eye test suggest he will be an excellent NHL player.

Don't know why I'm wasting my time trying to explain this to someone who thinks every Canucks prospect is the next Mario Lemieux. You make John Garrett look fair and balanced.

It just came to me. Alexander Daigle. Fast, great shot, lit it up in the Q. No similarities there at all of course.

It took two posts for Alexander Daigle to come to you?

Name a top-3 pick in the last decade that flamed out like Daigle. Then explain how the fuck a fluke like Daigle is relevant to this discussion.

Have you actually watched Droiun play, dingleberry, or are you just trying to make friends with the John Garrett Pom-Pom Squad?

It's the combination of not having proven himself and expecting a top 6 role. He seems unwilling to take his 'lumps' which is concerning to me. No question he has a higher ceiling than McCann or Virtanen, I'm wary of giving up guys who have shown that maturity and deal with adversity like being scratched. You don't win cups by bailing when the going gets tough.

That said, maybe McCann is on the first line to showcase him.

Fair enough Rede, I get your concerns.

Gotta remember that players of his ilk aren't available at his age if there aren't concerns. Sometimes you gotta roll the dice a little, and considering our team's dearth of elite talent, it seems like we should be interested.

With Montreal dropping in the standings the news that Price is out another 2-3 weeks really hurts their chances of making the playoffs.
