Buffalo trades Thomas Vanek to the Islanders for Matt Moulson, a First in 2014, and a Second in 2015.

Seems a bit odd, considering Moulson has more goals, and the same amount of points in fewer games. He also makes $3.133M compared to Vanek's $7.14. Both are UFA at the end of the season.
holy shit!
Tavares will love it, but they should have got Miller or a dman instead.
But I guess Moulson will probably re-sign at season's end with Vanek testing free agency and most definitely hitting pay dirt.

Could be a deadly combo with one of the best young player in the game in Tavares
Agreed. But is the 5 extra goals he gets you vs. Moulson really worth the 1st and 2nd rounders?
Since 09/10:
Moulson: 304 GP 118 G
Vanek: 280 GP 110 G
Over their careers Vanek is a .42 G/GP (34.44 goals over 82 games), while Moulson is .37 G/GP (30.34).
If NYI can re-up Vanek and he shows chemistry with Tavares, they win this deal. But that's a lot to give up for a rental player, imo.
Don't underestimate the Tavares Factor in regards to Moulson's production.
Vanek carried the Sabres, Moulson did
not carry the Fishsticks.
Those 4 extra goals per year/career are significant as well.
Having said that, I like this deal for both teams.
Two teams going in different directions.
Buffalo is clearly tanking and they probably flip Moulson at the deadline.
Meanwhile, the Isles will do whatever they can to re-sign Vanek.
I'm guessing he's good pals with fellow Austrian Gatling Gun Grabner.
That and
finally having a world-class centre in Tavares just might do the trick!
LOFL at Hodgson though.

C'mon, you know why he was stuck in the minors so long...
Because of the Living Legend?
I think Horvat was a great return on Schneids, all things considered.
Hey, it's no coincidence that the word "panic" appears 6 times in this article:

So sick and tired of folks trying to hide mental illness as if it were something to be ashamed of!

"TheFourthPeriod 1-for-1 trade... Flyers send Talbot to Avalanche for Steve Downie, Avs officially announce."
Talbot is money in the
playoffs - beast mode 3rd/4th line center/winger

I'm kind of puzzled about this one... I thought Downie was well liked in Colorado. I know they were negotiating contract and he's a UFA at the end of the season, but still.

Downie is a much better player than Talbot. Maybe they don't want his influence on the team with all the kids. Bit of a loose cannon to say the least. Good player but not the sharpest knife in the drawer and he has had a few issues in the past.
Kinda sudden and he was playing well. This trade doesn't pass the smell test.

I was actually hoping he'd be a trade target if his contract status was still up in the air, and the Canucks were in a buyers position, at the deadline.

I like Downie a lot.
Talbot?
Mmmmmm.... not so much.
So yeah the Flyer fan in me is happy.
Talbot's is
actually set to earn $4.25m over 3 seasons = $1.4m per (cap hit = 1.75m per).
Compare to Downie at $2.65m per... and looking for a big raise in the summer.
Are the Avs just being ridiculously cheap here?
Did Downie threaten to punch out Varlamov this morning for some reason?
I dunno, but Philly kills it with this trade.

Nothing is odd when it comes to the Islanders. Islanders found yet another way to trade away the future. Go Isles Go

Manny inks 1 year two way deal with Carolina. Is expected to start with the Canes tonight. Wish him all the best.

Wow. Much earlier than I expected. I honestly didn't think he'd find a suitor in the NHL. Best of luck to Manny.
