No, Franson has steered himself for the big pay-day next year as a UFA - and likely not with T.O. given how these negotiations went down. Wouldn't be surprised if he signs elsewhere for less, or if No-Nuts has to significantly over-pay for his services - even assuming he has an equivalent year this year. leaves better go far - at least Conference Finals - for him to forget how No-Nuts tried to cheap him out.BigTuna wrote:That's not what I meant and Franson agreed with me.Lancer wrote:BigTuna wrote:He's a good player. Yeah, because skills fade quickly at age 26...

Sarah McLellan @azc_mclellan
Miele and Szwarz sent back to Portland, Tippett said. Brule released from his tryout.

If he has no kids, he should just go play in Europe/KHL for awhile to get his mojo back.Jovocop wrote:For all those Brule fans...

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Franson is RFA. He has little leverage again next season.Lancer wrote:

Franson now holds the hammer. Next summer he has the considerable leverage of exercising his arbitration rights and unless the cheeseburgler overpays he will automatically be awarded a 1 year deal for well north of 5 then be UFA the summer after.Vader wrote:Franson is RFA next year.Lancer wrote:

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,816,667; BONUSES: $300,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): -$216,667
Hey Tuna, the -$216,667 means they are currently over the cap. Which means they need to drop a player, so lets say they send Trevor Smith down (no idea if they can without clearing waivers and really don't care).
With Clarkson done for the first 10 games and no cap relief from that they will only have 12 forwards and 7 defenseman available.
Can you tell me what happens when someone gets hurt? Hell, Lupul has been healthy way to long and is do to miss a ton of games any time now!
The leaves have to get rid of someone with salary unless they are going to run with a 20 man roster for the first 10 games and just hope no one gets injured. Remember how the Flames screwed themselves over a few years ago having to run a short bench because they didn't have the cap room to bring anyone up from the minors?
Should be interesting.

So now that you were wrong, it's still a huge blunder by Nonis? Lol. 2 million is a steal. And he's only RFA. Sure he can file for arbitration. But will he have a season like he did last year. We have no idea.
I really don't care what happens in the summer of 2015'. Now you're reaching.

Sure and they could've traded Kessel to create cap room for those two if they wanted.BigTuna wrote:Apparently they canStrangelove wrote:Perhaps you'd like to explain to the salary cap hockey world how they're gonna keep those two + Kadri.BigTuna wrote: Franson isn't gone at all. Neither is Liles.
Point was, Liles is vastly overpaid & useless.
Point was, without him on the books/team they could've easily wrapped Franson up long-term.
Instead they've managed to piss off this valuable player to the point he wants out as soon as possible.
And as soon as pissed-off Kadri gets the hammer he'll no doubt exact his revenge on the Leaves.
But back to the point.
They are over the cap.
Clarkson is suspended for 10 games.
Injury is bound to happen with their fragile forwards.
They still need Liles to get run over by a bus.
So they have not yet kept those three players and escaped Cap Hell.
If they start the season with 19 players I imagine we won't be hearing from you for looooong time?

All things being equal, he actually does have leverage next season.
You should've thanked Danny Boy for enlightening you, rather than go the "But..." route.
Hell, all things being equal, Kessel should get an $8m x 8 season = $64m next summer.
But if he loses his other nut he might just decide to go full sex change instead.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
This is pretty much exactly what Franson wanted, less money, but he got the term. Arbitration will have serious repercussions for Nonis next summer if he puts up 50 points.BigTuna wrote:Uncle dans leg wrote: Franson now holds the hammer. On his back-end he will have Phaneuf (UFA), Franson (RFA), Fraser (UFA), Gardiner (RFA), and Ranger (UFA) as free agents. Liles will probably be traded for nothing but cap space in the next couple days, leaving Gunnarson as the only regular signed after this season.
So, Nonis isn't in trouble yet. But he probably won't have the space to give raises to Phaneuf, Gardner, and Franson. He will have to let Mark Fraser go, and Morgan Reilly is a $1.7M cap hit (vs Fraser's $1.2).
Still a good deal for Toronto, but I think Franson will play his way out of town by forcing the leaves hand at the contract table. On the plus side, Darcy Tucker and Colby Armstrong's buyouts, and Ben Scrivens and Matt Frattin's retained salary come off the books!

No one will take the Liles off their hands with that contract.
Hell I wouldn't want him on my team at minimum wage.
Even Poulin said he hasn't been the same since his concussion in December 2011.
No yeah they're looking at being stuck with Liles and having to dump a good player.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
My guess is they WILL dump Liles in a same type of deal they were on the receiving end of when they got Franson by also accepting Lombardi. Trading Liles and a prospect to get him off their books. Taking back nothing but plugs they can stuff in the minors.Strangelove wrote: No yeah they're looking at being stuck with Liles and having to dump a good player.
Speaking of teams over the salary cap, Boston and Philly will demote someone for day 1 and then place Savard and Pronger on LTIR. Detroit (26 men still on roster) has to clear about $2.3M. I'd wonder if Tootoo ($1.9M) or Bertuzzi ($2M) hit the waiver wire. Pittsburgh (23 men on roster currently) has to clear about $1.1M in salary. Does Tanner Glass ($1.1M) becomes the odd man out there?

As in, when the buyout window opens again next summer? IIRC, all buyouts are done until next summer...Strangelove wrote:

The leaves only options are to trade, waive, or stick him in the minors and save themselves $900K on the cap.
