Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Not a great signing but definitely decent for the $$. Nice kid, good person, good skills..... heart of a chipmunk and the balls of an aphid. He'll light it up for 30 points in the first 40 games in the no contact East , then disappear when it matters. For a million it's money well spent. He is the definition of a soft 2nd/3rd line tweener

Even if he doesn't work out, it's hard to say it was a mistake for 1 million and the way he played to make the team.

This is classic MayRay. Play to potential and beyond for the contract, then float around like a pussy. Flash, dash, button hook, dump.BigTuna wrote: Even if he [Mason Raymond] doesn't work out, it's hard to say it was a mistake for 1 million and the way he played to make the team.

It's not surprising that a 28 year old NHL veteran playing for his career on a PTO showed up at camp hungry.
The problems with Raymond are not associated with how he looks on paper. On paper he's a steal at $1M. The problem is that his insanely soft play means he really needs to be a 25G 25A guy to be an effective contributor, which he simply just doesn't seem capable of.
He's a nice guy, a fantastic skater, responsible at both ends and he has a decent shot, but he will forever leave you wanting more. Classic 2nd/3rd line tweener who isn't skilled enough to be a consistently effective 2nd liner and doesn't have the game to be a great 3rd liner.

I think he will be a good signing at 1 mill but that's it. Minimal impact player when the games matter the most

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Today special, some interesting names.
Peckham is another Alberts but younger, bigger and tougher. However, MG is too nice of a guy to waive Alberts for Peckham.
Could Winchester replace Sestito? Winchester is definitely a better hockey player than Sestito but a few years older...
Waivers:
Omark, Linus EDM
Gordon, Andrew WPG
McMillan, Carson MIN
Rau, Chad MIN
Veilleux, Stephane MIN
Gaunce, Cameron DAL
Winchester, Brad CHI
Peckham, Theo CHI
Samson, Jerome WPG
Leggio, David WSH
Moore, Mike BOS
Blum, Jonathon MIN
Connelly, Brian MIN
Kampfer, Steven MIN
Landry, Jon MIN

I seem to remember he was a fairly talented prospect a couple of years ago. Wonder if there's any interest in VCRJovocop wrote: Gaunce, Cameron DAL

For all of his 60 games NHL experience, Brunner sure out did Raymond with the PTO.
5 million over two years.
Though Raymond is only signed for 1 season and can go out and have a stellar year and recoup a lot of that cash next contract..... if it weren't for the fact that he's still Mason Raymond.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
According to fish-head there, the organization (and/or the fans) have adopted the sour grapes approach to it. The leaves are moving on/don't want him anymore/are just not that into him - that kind of thing. I guess if you don't want to be a Leaf so bad that you'll eat shit to cover up Cheeseburglar's cap ineptitude, then the leaves and their fans don't want you. I mean, the guy was only their highest-scoring defenceman and 4th highest scorer last season, so screw him if he doesn't want to sign for $2 million/yr for 5 years or some other Nonis-friendly contract.ESQ wrote:Even if he costs you Franson?BigTuna wrote: Even if he doesn't work out, it's hard to say it was a mistake for 1 million and the way he played to make the team.
How to make a guy feel wanted. I hope he gets offer-sheeted no matter what picks go the other way. leaves don't deserve him.
Love the Sport. Love the Team.

Don't waste your time with him. I brought up the point yesterday and his response was:ESQ wrote:Even if he costs you Franson?BigTuna wrote: Even if he doesn't work out, it's hard to say it was a mistake for 1 million and the way he played to make the team.
Seriously, why wouldn't it happen?? There are nine teams with over $3.5m cap space even with a minimum of 22 man roster and six teams have over $6m. Sabres, Senators, Flames and Avalanche would have no problems signing Franson to an offer sheet that makes life miserable for Nonis. Especially the Avalanche, Sherman is probably the only team that can and will take back Liles. Basically, Sherman can really screw Nonis big time...BigTuna wrote: At this point, the leaves are moving on from Franson. Nothing good is coming from this holdout from Franson.
He's a nice player, but no team will offer-sheet him. That almost never happens.
