So Old Marblehead and the Devil are negotiating an extension.

Old Marblehead says he wants he wants guarantees he will play 60 (ish?) games.

TRANSLATION: GIVE ME 6 X $6m or I'm... thhhhpp... outta here!!

Pretty risky for a 28-year-old who has never played more than 45 games in an NHL season no?

Especially when he was HORRIBLE this past March (right around the time he reached his normal 30ish threshold)

Some Canuck fans thought $4m was pretty fair for a goalie who would surely be playing 60ish a coupla years ago.

But yeah THAT NEVER HAPPENED and virtually all of his numbers have declined since then.

6 X $6m.

Would ya?

Brian Elliot has better stats. He makes $2.5M per for the next 3 years.

Schneider has potential (at 28). So... 3 years, $15M? I'd do that.

Elite goalies get paid $7M per, Schneider ain't one... yet ;)

Uh, The Cory will get a HELL of a lot better contract than 3 years @ 15M. He'd be a bargain for the Canucks or any other team at 6 years @ 6M. :mex:

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Schneider plays on his head, wins the Jennings, and the Vezina, and the Hart?

I'm not sure if I'd be laughing more at Gillis (and our own misfortune at having had Gillis as GM when we ended up with two top goalies) or at Doc.....who is NEVER wrong, amiright?

Martin Brodeur to become free agent
Updated: June 6, 2014, 6:29 PM ET
By Pierre LeBrun | ESPN.com
"I've had a lot of good conversations with the Devils, but I'm not inclined at going back at this point," said Brodeur, whose contract expires June 30. "I just feel that with Schneids (goalie Corey Schneider) the organization has to move on. Me being around might be tough a little bit for them. I don't completely put it out of the question (returning to New Jersey) but I don't want to mess up the cards for the Devils.

"At the end of the day, it doesn't matter where I go next, I'm always going to be a Devil. I'm always going to come back to the organization. But I want to play one more year. So I'll see what's out there."
Finally!!! Marty making some sense ... :mex:
This is BEYOND COMICAL ...... from hockey insider, Eklund:

Martin Brodeur Could be Heading to Pittsburgh (e4) to be a "1A" w/ MAF
This is a very hot rumor today. With the Penguins new GM Jim Rutherford in place we can expect many changes and surprises in Pittsburgh...and the first change could be in net, as I am told the GM is looking to stabilize the position quickly.

Martin Brodeur will not be back in NJ but wants one more shot at a Cup. It isn't about money with Marty at this point. It is clearly about a last shot. Brodeur wants to be around a winning team and I am told wants to stay in the East, preferably the Metro division.

The source I spoke to today told me the thinking was to bring Marty into the fray in Pitt to split the starting role with Fleury and try and mentor him a bit. Crosby apparently absolutely LOVES this idea.

More to come prior to Game 2 tonight.
So one fossil gm, trying to fix their goalie issues with a fossil goaltender. Uh, okay. :mex:

Blob, are you on twitter? If so, you can say it to them directly. :D

IMO, Botchford is the number one Canucks' beat reporter. :mex:

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

COL has, in fact, elected club salary arbitration on Ryan O'Reilly. Had to be filed by 5 pm ET today. And it was.

3:10 PM - 15 Jun 2014
Could be a tactic to put pressure on Ryan O'Reilly to sign a long-term deal at an AAV less than what his QO would be. :mex:
