It would be sweet to see Letang in a Vancouver uni, but GM MG needs to chase this deal, which is not in his character as a tough negotiator. There are times when you need to overpay and this may be one of them.

I thought I had read somewhere that the issue was more personal than financial, thanks for the link *someone*.
Letang is the real deal and would add another dimension to our offense.
Kills penalties too.
RH shot.
Trouble on your PP? Get Letang!
If we could get him at $7mil/per on an extension....
If we could get him for Edler + Schroeder...
Well you just do it.
Bonus that he would actually come in at a lower cap-hit than Edler in this coming cap-crunch season.
No problem giving him that raise when the cap goes up in 2014-15.

You can thank hockey nerd Elliotte Friedman.

If it's an Edler for Letang swap I would try to shoehorn Luongo in there.
Take MAF back and flip him or buy him out, maybe even retain some of Luongo's contract to get another asset somehow.

And clearing that off the cap for one year would allow us to keep Ballard for one more year if we needed defensive depth. Ballard blocks shots. Torts loves shot blockers. Ballard brings depth on D for a long season. Just saying.Strangelove wrote: Definitely.

Throw in Luongo, let them buy out MAF, and get something else back.

Why the fuck did the Blackhawks organization have to go and do something this classy:

The bio for this account advertises that they repost ALL rumours relating to the Sabres, and with just 600 followers you can actually scroll through and note that nobody in the hockey world follows it.Eddy Punch Clock wrote:I read from the same source he turned down a 4 year 3.25 offer.Jovocop wrote:OT, the Sabres seem to have issues re-signing Mr. Hodgson.

edit: oh and they've also claimed that the Sabres turned down the Philadelphia Flyers offer of Braydon Coburn, Sean Couturier and the 11th overall pick for Ryan Miller so there's that too.
Pretty safe to say he has as many inside sources as @krufrank.
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Richards not being bought out.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
NYR will not be using their remaining compliance buyout this summer so Brad Richards will remain a Blueshirt.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
If Letang is available Gillis should be making a run for him.
He is exactly what the Canucks need on the back end. We can add some size and sandpaper somewhere else but he could help in a lot of ways.
$7M per doesn't worry me too much as the new cap hit wouldn't kick in till next year when the cap is likely to go up. Hell at that point the Sedin's contract are off the books!
We'd have to give up Edler ++ to get him so working him on to the roster this year isn't a big issue either as his cap hit is onl $3.5M. We would definitely need a conditional pick coming back in case he doesn't re-sign with us.
Edler, Luongo, Schroeder, 2nd - 2014
Letang, Vokoun, Conditional 1st - 2014 (becomes a 3-4 rounder if Letang re-signs)
They can keep MAF and get something for him.
Something along those lines anyways.

Wishfull thinking, you can put this in the bank.
Canucks starting core will be identical with no big names added for the start of next season
The only differance will be Luongo gone.
Letang is a pipe dream.
