TJ Oshie to the Caps for Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley, 2016 3rd round pick.
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Wow, that is another robbery... I would imagine Oshie could garner more than that package. The Blues are going for size and grit instead of skills. Interesting...Aaronp18 wrote:TJ Oshie to the Caps for Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley, 2016 3rd round pick.

I'm surprised Benning didn't give him Bieksas money and throw him on a line with Horvat and shoe horn in Virtanen. There's not a better playmaking winger in the league right now, woulda been a nice boost to start the youngsters out with confidence and veteran leadership.Topper wrote:St Louis is retiring.
I hear Stevie Y slowly clapping.
You'd think the Rags could have gotten a 3rd for his negotiating rites, no wonder Sather stepped aside.

Voynov to plead no contest to misdemeanour domestic assault. Plea deal means a 90 day jail sentence and three years probation, along with mandatory domestic violence classes. U.S. Immigration to proceed with deportation charges while Voynov's camp to contest deportation. Kings remain silent at this point.

ROR contract very interesting. Salary is $1M per year. Rest is signing bonus: 10, 8, 7.5, 5, 5, 5 and 5.
I guess all that means is he gets his salary up front at the start of the year.

7.5 mil cap hit. the structuring would make him tradable to a cap floor team in the future, assuming they only have to pick up the salary.Hockey Widow wrote:Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC · 1m1 minute ago

Still, that's a hefty contract for a guy who isn't your marquee player.

Would the acquiring team not have to pick up the signing bonus every July 1st? I get it from O'Reilly's perspective, a nice lump sum every summer. Lockout/Strike protected, and all that.Rayxor wrote:7.5 mil cap hit. the structuring would make him tradable to a cap floor team in the future, assuming they only have to pick up the salary.Hockey Widow wrote:Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC · 1m1 minute ago

It is now being reported that signing bonuses are not subject to escrow. If so you bet two things 1) more agents are going to demand this 2) Bettman moves real fast to change this.
If this is truly a work around to avoid escrow it will sky rocket for players who are in a position to exert leverage in negotiations.

When does the current CBA expire? When does ROR's contract expire?Island Nucklehead wrote:Would the acquiring team not have to pick up the signing bonus every July 1st? I get it from O'Reilly's perspective, a nice lump sum every summer. Lockout/Strike protected, and all that.

In addition to all that money up-front for O'Reilly to "do what he wants with it," he'll also be keeping it out of any escrow payments by the players to the NHL. According to Harrington, players had about 14 percent of their base salaries withheld in escrow this past season until the league’s final revenue numbers were released."
In addition to that perk in the bonus structure Harrington, as well as others, conclude that O'Reilly's contract is also veritably buyout-proof as he will get his signing bonus money regardless as a buyout would affect only the $1 million annual salary.
