Sharks trade Demers, draft pick to Stars for Dillon
The San Jose Sharks on Friday traded defenseman Jason Demers and a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft to the Dallas Stars for defenseman Brenden Dillon.

Demers, 26, has three assists and a minus-6 rating in 20 games while averaging 18:11 of ice time per game. He set career-highs last season with five goals and 34 points.

A 2008 seventh-round pick of the Sharks (No. 186), Demers has 16 goals and 98 points in 300 regular-season games.

Dillon, 24, was fourth on the Stars with an average ice time of 20:36. In 20 games he has one assist and a minus-2 rating. His six goals last season was second among Dallas defensemen.

They are pretty much in their third rebuild in a row. If they get the first overall this year it will be 4 first overall picks in the last 6 drafts, a fucking joke. You might as well call the 2nd overall pick a first overall and if the Oilers don't get the first they are near certain to get the 2nd

What GM in their right mind starts an 18 year old as your second line centre behind that fucking lightweight fly - RNH? It's not rocket science to visualize that experiment going wrong. They are so obsessed with creating the next Gretzky, Kurri, Messier, Anderson forward group they've completely lost touch with how the game is played now.

The NHL needs to stop rewarding incompetent mgmt with high draft picks, blow the system up, if not, tanking will continue every year
Yep. It's too bad they didn't change the lottery rules to take effect THIS season.

Lowe must have some serious Joe McGrath-level dirt on Katz, it's the only way to explain why that guy still has a job. Easily one of the generationally bad stretches of professional sports management. They've gone 8 straight (will likely hit 9 this year) without a playoff appearance. Taylor Hall was 14 years old when the Oilers were last playing a playoff game, Draisiatil was 10.

They just had GMs Holland and Armstrong on hockey night. Holland says you need to have a good culture on your team for your kids to learn from. Kevin Lowe doesn't seem to understand that the days of 18 year olds leading the way has long set sail and gone. Those kids in Edmonton are tarnished they all should have gone back to junior

The oilers with this coming draft will have had 8 top 10 draft picks from the last 9 drafts. LMAO...ridiculous.

This is the character guy that's helping create the Oilers' "good culture":

He's a badass for sure; he plays with an edge, plays to win and is a Stanley Cup winner. He took out Kassassian with a hit to the head and fought Juice last game. He's the type of guy the Oil needs more of for their wee uns; especially if their core is a bunch of dinky, skilled, lady byng types in Yakupov, Eberle, Hall and Nooby-Hopkins.

He's an overpaid, 35 year old, bottom-pairing d-man with rocks in his head that has almost no hockey sense or leadership ability, milking his last years in the league on a team that has to overpay to sign even marginal UFA's. Then they were insane enough to make him Captain.

He's the perfect captain for a perennial basement-dweller.

The Sabres are the ones pulling the tank job this year, the best thing about the Oilers is that they were apparently trying to win

That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the reason Kevin Lowe (et al) still has a job is because finishing the 2014-15 season in the toilet isn't the worst thing in the world.

If the Oilers don't pull it out of the fire this year and pick up another "can't miss" prospect in the top 5, plus another good 'un between 31-35, then throw Lowe to the wolves and bring in a competent hockey ops staff to try to build some momentum for 2016-17 in the team's shiny new arena.. that would probably be OK for Katz in the grand scheme.

Fuck that was awesome! Crumpled the douche and then Lucic throws his purse once the linesman gets involved (seriously has that been made a gif yet?). Milan should be thankful Prout didn't end his season by pumping his face full of fists when he was dazed and confused.

LOL

Ference is a fucking retard.

The Oilers are a joke. An absolute joke. The Oakland Raiders are run better.

I am confident that even if the Oilers did manage to get McDavid or Eichel, Lowe & Co. would fuck it up big time.

Bang on. If they do not shop their high pick in the draft this year for real help they should be run out of edmonchuk. One high pick after another ruined. Look at RNH. That kid had superstar written all over him and now his game is gone to shit. I would give up a lot to get that kid back home where he belongs but it better be soon before they tear the heart out of him. How about our first, Corrado, Edler and one of Jensen, Shink or even Cassels if it took that much to get RNH home to Van.

Agreed.

Let the team thst wins the Stanley Cup get first pick, then a straight lottery between the other teams.

And the team that ends last should be thrown out. Add another team to replace them.

Totally, Lucic should have bought Prout a beer for holding back.

A "Promotion and Relegation" system might work. The worst two NHL teams get demoted to the AHL and the best two AHL teams get promoted to the NHL.

So Edmonton finally gets relegated and Utica plays against the Canucks next year 5 times!
