No good GM would want to look desperate, Nonis is doing exactly what he needs to do. If he wants Luongo he needs to wait and see if the price is reduced. If he goes in now MG will be rubbing his hands together. If Nonis does not want Luongo then TO will go with what they got and hope they make the playoffs.

Other teams are waiting to see what they have, this is a weird season and things will heat up 5 - 10 games into the season. I am assuming the trade deadline day will be ~ 30 games which will come fast.

I agree Nonis probably doesn't get Luongo this time.

Mostly because Mike Gillis is a hell of a lot smarter than Mike Keenan (was in his later years), so the cost to acquire isn't going to be a deeply flawed first liner one year away from unrestricted free agency and a dogs breakfast of other assets.

As for the notion that we should trade Cory Schneider rather than Luongo I see the reasoning but I don't particularly buy the "window" theory behind it so I don't agree.

(That and now that we know how the league is going to try to hurt teams that signed backdiving contracts, we know that running with Luongo another five years is going to double our cap penalty if he retires early. And this is all completely ignoring the fact that Luongo by now has likely asked to be moved and that the ship has sailed, pure and simple.)

If we can get a young pro with second or even first line upside like Drew Shore plus a high draft pick and another asset for Luongo the Canucks will be in much better shape both now and into the future.

Nobody is going to give up the farm in a shortened season for a veteren goalie with a scarey contract. Weaker goalies can handle a 48 game 'sort of' season and GM's know that. There is a reason why Gillis has been unable to trade Luongo for 9 months now. His price is way too high and there isn't the market you all think there is for him.

Gillis is screwed. We should be trading Schneider instead.

On day one, his first order of business should have been to trade/waive of all of the players that were there here before him, regardlesss of their talent and character. That's obviously the way to build a team.

Keenan's Cousin there's a blast from the past... I dunno what happened to Pacific Blue he used to hit the trails hard he also used to lament the loss of his Rockford Files blunt smokin ex lol... He had a nervous breakdown after Peter Schaefer was moved and nearly was on suicide watch after scouting BCHL sensation Milan Gajic on Shaw TV when the Canucks failed to take the young man...

Somewhere along the line he started listening to Country & or Western Music while playing the role of Mike Brady and shouting GET OFF MY LAWN... Having said that we do agree on Gillis in this respect He Fucked up Cody Hodgson... I'm not saying you don't move him or I don't like Kassian cause I really luv the kid... IMO the coach was never going to Play Kassian in a big spot in the postseason so its a futures deal, if thats the case maximize Hodgson's as an asset and put him in a package with the goalie..

Duder, I remember the horses ass we use to get in the 70's and most of the 80's....BIG FUCKING DIFFERENCE...this team is actually talented to the balls....yeah the game has changed and I sometimes agree with you that they practice shutdown hockey but I hold my head up high....I use to be a perennial loser Canuck fan and now I have jealous Leaf/Habs/Flames fans making smartass comments (to which it is easy to retort ) what a difference....we want the Cup for sure but this journey got a hell of a lot better since '90 ....that's 20 yearsish of watching my team have a chance of winning as opposed of the firsts 20 years of shit hockey (the flukey 82 being the exception o'course)
