We should always sell high and buy low. Luongo for Ovechkin and a 1st rounder.rats19 wrote:After last night.....crosby and a pick...

Haha it's the kind of reaction I was expecting from ya, just tired of seeing all these Canuck homer trade fantasies now, in the end I think we'll see a fair deal for both sides for a potential Luongo deal, with a 50/50 split on hating or loving it, anyways just have to remember Washington is in the business of trying to win the Cup now as well!RoyalDude wrote:Shit, I don't think Jack Gordon would make a trade that bad. Luongo, Bieksa, Raymond, 2nd rounder
for
Neuvirth, Green, Johansson
Chose Green because I see no way Carlson will be moved, great contract, tremendous upside, only 23, where as Green is injury prone, has a bigger contract, but if he stays healthy we got ourselves one of the best scoring dmen in the league - RH shot, bigrisk/high-reward type of dman.
We get a severe downgrade in goaltending swapping in Neuvirth for Luongo, we get an overrated smallish defenseman with a massive contract in place of Bieksa, we lose there as well. Raymond for Johansson is a wash and we give up a 2nd rounder. Shit SKYO are you on a Blobby Mack Bender at the Arms on Coast Meridian there? Fucking awful.
Luongo>>Neuvirth obviously.
Green over Bieksa this doesn't have to be included in the deal but to help with our transitional game, I would like to see a pure offensive minded QB dman in our top 4 defense.
Get a dman that can rush the puck up the ice and be a constant threat to help give that wave like, dominant attack on teams, I think Green is the perfect dman for that. If MG wants a true mobile defense, acquiring a gifted offensive type of dman is absolutely vital to that type of system.
I haven't been too impressed with Edler/Bieksa/Hamhuis/Garrison in that regard, sure they are decent at moving the puck, but not one of them is a specialist in being a puck rusher, play maker. And none of them are really skilled in setting up great passes for Edler and Garrison's cannon shots.
Ehrhoff was great at that with passing/setting up Salo or Edler, and Garrison had the awesome setups from Campbell, now both Edler/Garrison don't have that setup passing wizard dman partner anymore, and it shows on the PP and to an extent on the 5 on 5 attack.
If Green returns to his 70 point self again, he will be untouchable! He's just getting healthy now and I think this is a perfect buy low type of deal for him.
Johansson over Ray+2nd is an easy one, first of all Ray is a UFA, but more importantly I think this is another somewhat buy low scenario for Marcus , Swedes generally take a bit longer to develop in the NHL and he's no exception, however he's already put some decent points (46pts in 2011/12 @ 21 yrs of age, sophomore season), he has some good wheels, two-way ability, can play C/W, and will only get better scoring wise! imo.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Looks like Weiss is back on the rumour mill!Strangelove wrote:I still say he's going to Florida.
How about something like THIS:
Luongo, Raymond, Schroeder, conditional 2nd (if Weiss re-signs).
FOR
Weiss (rental: UFA in 6 months), Upshall (salary dump), Petrovic, Theodore (rental: UFA in 6 months).
While Kesler is out:
Dank - Hank - Burr
Booth - Weiss - Upshall
Higgins - Lappy - Hansen
Weise - Manny - Kassian
Ebbett
Volpatti
Hammy - Bieksa
Garrison - Edler
Ballard - Tanev
Alberts
Petrovic
Corrado
Schneids
Theodore
When Kesler is back:
Dank - Hank - Burr
Booth - Weiss - Upshall
Higgins - *Kesler - Kassian
Lappy - Manny - Hansen

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/4 ... Rs.twitterThe Florida Panthers poor start (1-4 in their opening five games) has sparked trade talk involving center and alternate captain Stephen Weiss.
When Weiss was removed from the lineup prior to Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators, he was reported as a healthy scratch. That resulted in trade speculation on Twitter until the Panthers announced Weiss had suffered a lower-body injury.
Three days later, the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch reported there was “talk” Weiss, an unrestricted free agent this summer, could be moved by the April 3 trade deadline. Garrioch claimed the Panthers, struggling for capital amid rumors they could be up for sale, might trade Weiss because they lack the cash to re-sign him.
Prior to last season, Weiss was a frequent fixture in the trade rumor mill, even though he was on a six-year, $18.6-million contract with a full no-movement clause. The Panthers surprising playoff appearance last season (their first since 2000) silenced those rumors, but given their poor start and Weiss' pending free agent status, it's not surprising questions over his future have resurfaced.
Despite Weiss' contract status, the Panthers won't shop him if they rally back into playoff contention by the trade deadline. On the other hand, if they're outside the playoff picture and cannot afford to re-sign him, they cannot risk losing him to free agency for nothing.
Should Weiss hit the trade market, the Vancouver Canucks could be the leading suitors, given goaltender Roberto Luongo preferred trade destination is back to the Panthers. The Canucks need skilled depth at center and with Ryan Kesler hobbled by injuries, it's easy to envision Weiss heading to Vancouver as part of the return for Luongo.
A deal with the Canucks is not a certainty, as they would want to re-sign Weiss before accepting him as part of a return for Luongo. Weiss' “no-movement” clause also gives him control over trade destinations.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Re: So, who would you like in a return for Luongo
Screw Crosby, I want Malkin.
Malkin & Fleury
for
Luongo, Booth, Jensen, Gaunce, Schroder, Corrodo and 2 1st rounders
We can later flip fleury for a player or picks/prospects afterwards. He still young enuff and his contract is reasonable, so someone would take him.
All seriousness though, Malkin might be a UFA in like 2 years. We should start clearing cap space to make a run for him.

So if the Switch doesn't Flip, does Gillis use the Luongo asset to make a quick fix type of trade, acquire veterens to right the ship, instead of build for the future?

No, if the Canucks really falter Gillis might have to think about saving his job so acquiring immediate help, veterans only, might be what happens.rats19 wrote:Might be possible to do both no?
