I want to play that 2nd line centre on the 3rd line when Kesler comes back.
I want your Vancouver Canucks to win a Stanley Cup THIS YEAR.
That's what I want.
3 scoring lines.

Exactly, even the Dude might agree with us on this one.Uncle dans leg wrote: 3 scoring lines.

We got to game 7 of a cup final with the 4 centers currently on our roster.Topper wrote:There are two 1st line centres and two fourth line centres. With one of the top injured, there is a gaping hole, The team needs someone who can play solid third line centre and sub at 2nd line if needed.
Agreed.I can't see Jordan Schroeder centering a third line on a team with cup aspirations. Not this season anyways.
Maybe that 3rd scoring centre gets us that 1 more win!Potatoe1 wrote: We got to game 7 of a cup final with the 4 centers currently on our roster.
Game 7 against the Bruins was how long ago?Potatoe1 wrote:We got to game 7 of a cup final with the 4 centers currently on our roster.Topper wrote:There are two 1st line centres and two fourth line centres. I would like an upgrade but I think we disagree on the urgency of making that change. I also don't think we need to trade Luongo to address that need. Typically vet 3rd liners go for picks in the 2 - 4 range.
I would move Lu for the best young player available and then move draft picks to fill the 3rd line center role.

No, my good friend, we need a shut down centre like Pahlsson. But if we can't find a Pahlsson, we have Lappy and Manny.Uncle dans leg wrote:Maybe that 3rd scoring centre gets us that 1 more win!Potatoe1 wrote: We got to game 7 of a cup final with the 4 centers currently on our roster.
Luongo + Higgins + Jensen for Kessel + Steckel + Reimer. <-- A true top 6 player, and a third line center. (with re-signing Kessel a priority in the offseason)Hockey Widow wrote: I think it is safe to assume that MG has not been offered a true top six that would significantly help us or he probably would have pulled the trigger. I think he has a deal he could take if he felt it would help us but I think he is reluctant because said deal would not make us a significantly better club this year.
I just know that if we are going to get prospects or pick for Luongo, both of which are good moving forward, then I want them when the season is over, not now. You don't trade a player like Luongo now for plugs.
Hockey Widow wrote: Now a top six centre who is UFA with other pieces would be a good move.
Luongo + Schroeder for Weiss + Shore + Clemmenson <-- Good top 6 center rental and a 3rd line center who can help now and way into the future for top 6 center duties.Topper wrote:There are two 1st line centres and two fourth line centres. Yes Kesler required surgery every off season. i guess if you are only counting the last two off seasons you might be right.RoyalDude wrote:

Fast forward to now, Malhotra sucks, Kesler is war torn and seemingly requires surgery every off season and by the time he is in game shape, if he does come back, by the time he gains his full confidence in his repaired shoulder it will be season 2013/14 and he Sedins will be 33.
So, basically you would like to see Gillis pull another brilliant Pahlsson like trade for a 3rd line centre, give up a 2nd to 4th round pick like he always does. Tell me, what is so wrong with Schroeder? Or are you on board with the horrid drafting and developing system that Gillis has created here. Potatoe, we need kids battling for jobs each and every new year. Teams depend on that. This is something we have not seen under the Gillis regime.
Cup aspirations? Come on Pot, did beating one of the worst teams in the league, the Avalanche, who were without their two best forwards, O'Reilly and Landeskog and solid role player - Steve Downie somehow renew some confidence in ya?
I think Tampa Bay might run contrary to that line of thinking, HW.....Hockey Widow wrote:Todd Bersnoozi wrote:Hmmm... A team thinking they could go all the way would already have a starter don't you think? And if they had a team set to go could they afford at the deadline to take a piece or two off the team. I just don't think the trade deadline would see a contender grab Lou but perhaps a team not going to make the playoffs might make a pitch but if you are Luongo do you waive?
2007 - Lu was outstanding despite the overtime blunder. The team was completely inept offensively. We had no chance, I loved his performance...no problem there.darren wrote:I'd point out that in every one of those "miserable failures", there have been two teams on the ice, and in every case but one*, that other team has gone on to win the Stanley Cup that year.Nuckertuzzi wrote: He may eventually get over the hump here but he's had six years, five opportunities and failed miserably in most of them.
I know this horse has been beaten to death, but when you score 8 goals in 7 games, that's a miserable failure alright, but not by your goaltending. (even when Lou was getting shutouts we were only scoring 1 goal, so I have no time for the "lou sucked so bad that he made the team suck" argument). To win the cup, you have to be good, and you have to be lucky with injuries. That's just how it is. The Bruins were a lot luckier with injuries than we were in 2011 and they won. The 2012 Kings were a lot better team on the ice than they were on paper, and they were damn lucky with injuries all the way through, and they won. The 2010 Hawks were simply better and deeper than we were, as were the 2007 Ducks.
*(I think that 2009 against the Hawks is the one time that I would really hang it on Lou... the rest of the time we got beat by a better/healthier team).
The twins are 32 and will continue on the same or better pace for years to come.......
The status quo does not work. This is the line up that took us to game seven two years ago.......
