Luongo, Raymond and a 3rd for Weiss, decent Florida prospect and a 2nd.

Hmmm Weiss would be a rental so I'd still insist on Petro.

Lu Wongo for Weiss, Petrovic, and a 2nd.

It would be contingent on signing Weiss to an extension I suppose. I look at him as a high-end forward who's good at everything and can excel in various roles.

Dank Hank Kassian
Burrows Kesler Booth
Higgins Weiss Hansen
Weise Lapierre Schroeder/Malhotra/Volpatti

That gives us some offense on the second and third lines as well as the ability to play some serious SHUTDOWN HOCKEY. Pretty damn good forward roster IMO, and there's still the deadline if we want to add another element. The way Chicago's forwards are playing we might have to.

Maybe a condition 2nd if we re-sign him?

Yeah a couple of us were musing last week about acquiring Weiss and creating 3 scoring lines:

Dank Hank Kassian
Higgins Kesler Burrows
Booth Weiss Hansen
Lapierre Malhotra Weise

Schroeder/Volpatti/Ebbett

Booth + Weiss were two-thirds of Florida's #1 line a coupla years ago. :drink:

Yeah, we get a first if he doesn't sign an extension.

The problem is that if you're picking up Luongo, you hope to push for a cup in the next year or so but losing the only #1 centre you have basically signals the rebuild. After Weiss they have a 19 yr old Huberdeau then the mighty Marcel Goc up the middle.
Can't see them moving Weiss in a Luongo trade.

Plus Matthias, Drew Shore and Bjugstad.

But if they need help we send em Manny and/or Ebbett. Image Image
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Dan, Florida doesn't want to lose Weiss for nothing amirite?

(not sure if they can re-sign him, but wouldn't they have done that by now if they could?)

They probably wanna keep doing what they've been doing

.... compete for the playoffs every year with a wide range of age on the roster.

Luongo fits that plan amirite?

:D

Now that I think about it (again) they might wanna keep Weiss for this season and let him walk.

They have a wealth of prospects to bring up (or trade) in the next coupla years.

Yeah.... keeping Weiss definitely increases their chances of making the playoffs THIS year.

K, I'm back to:

I see this but they must feel like they can re-sign him. I'd say he's using his leverage as their only true top centre and a move to obtain a 34 yr old isn't exactly going with youth. I wonder if this conundrum is the mystery team dealing with that 1 player. If/when Weiss re-signs I can see FLA being much more interested in Luongo.

This only decreases Vancouver's chances of making another cup run this year. I just don't see Fla being a candidate for Gillis to trade with, pre-deadline, if Luongo is the key player going the other way.

Good point, but I want that Petrovic YESTERDAY dammit!

And hey, trading Lou now would create more cap-space to bring in another top rental player amirite? :mex:

I really like what I've seen of Drew Shore(which is only 1 game lol). He is a big guy who is good on the forecheck and along the wall. He was excellent defensively and will likely project as a solid 2/3 centre who is tough to play against.

Petrovic also has my interest. 6'4" tough defenders who can skate and pound the puck (righty to boot)are always valuable.

These 2 guys for RL next summer would be my choice for the team.

urrite.

However, if Gillis can manage to move Lu and his salary, while bringing in another top player (rental or no) in the same deal, it makes far more sense to do so. This is where I think Weiss is an intriguing option. Yet to open up space simply to acquire someone else separately is a risky maneuver if Gillis doesn't have a secondary deal already in the works.

I'm just not prepared to give Gillis that much credit. :P

Like I said last summer to Dave, we ain't gonna get BOTH.

How about we make the trade I'm calling for tomorrow and then see about renting Perry/Getzlaf at the deadline?

Or can we afford the asking price?
