there wont be a 'trade market' until the new cba is laid out.. so prolly 2014, perhaps 2015Guess it's over but for the signing. At least it's over and the trade markets can begin again in earnest.

Looking pretty much signed sealed and delivered now,
E Kane a bit of pipe dream imo.
Arnott will probably sign a one year contract here now.
Versteeg anyone?Reports Shane Doan has signed four-year $21.5 million extension with Coyotes

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
Re: Shane Doan
Thank the Gods. We had crackpots here wanting to give him $7mil a year. We were lucky to avoid that kool-aid.Todd Bersnoozi wrote:Heard Doan pretty much has a done deal to stay Phoenix, he's just waiting for the sale to go through. Oh well.

7 a year........who wanted that ???Tciso wrote:Thank the Gods. We had crackpots here wanting to give him $7mil a year. We were lucky to avoid that kool-aid.Todd Bersnoozi wrote:Heard Doan pretty much has a done deal to stay Phoenix, he's just waiting for the sale to go through. Oh well.
I would have went 6- 6.25 on a two year pact........maybe three years at 16.5..... if it was 4 years, no more than 20.
Either way I am kind of glad he is off the market. I'd rather see Gillis develop Kassian and pursue a high end young d -man in a Luongo deal. There are still pieces to move (Luongo,Ballard, Schroeder) to acquire another power forward/angry winger w/skill. Offer sheet Benn or Kane for starters.

I'm still hoping we get Bjugstad in the Luongo trade but if not then let's look elsewhere. Too bad about Doan as he would have fit the need like a glove. Oh well the way the talks are going it seems almost sure that we will have a management inspired lock out. It still leaves me wondering why a league that sets a new record for profits every year, wants to shut it down.

Re: Shane Doan
This Coyote thing is FAR from over. For one thing, Jamison is not a viable "owner". He doesn't have the capital. He's basically a broker looking to get others to invest in that mess. Look how long its been since he's been trying to "raise the cash". Even if he gets the deal done, they say it takes roughly $40 million to have a team function due to massive overhead costs. Where's that dough going to come from? Buying the team is just the start of the money drain.
Secondly, there is a new mayor coming in to Glenndale and apparently both top electoral candidates loathe this tax-payer backed sweetheart arrangement. The agreement has passed council but has yet to be signed. The new mayor will most likely toss it out. We haven't hear the last of the Goldwater Institute either.
Needless, to say....despite Doan's patience and admirable loyalty, this deal is far from done. If it was a sure thing why hasn't he signed yet?!? Truth is, they have a *verbal* agreement. That all could change if Jamison can't deliver the goods by the 15th of this month....although we've heard that one before.

Dream on...the best prospect you will get out of Florida in a Luongo deal would be a Howden or a Petrovic type. Bjugstad, Huberdeau and Gudbranson are the future of the Panther organization. Tallon ain't trading either one of them.

Re: Shane Doan
Thats the one I like, a sweetheart long term offer sheet for Kane right at the deadline for the lockout...no time for Winnipeg to match before knowing the outcome and reality of the new CBA ....dirty pool I figure, but since when was either Gillis or the Canucks a part of the old boy network that is the NHL?Blob Mckenzie wrote:7 a year........who wanted that ???Tciso wrote:Thank the Gods. Re: Shane Doan
Good question about a deadline and I was wondering too. My thinking is that since the CBA expires on the 15th no new contracts will be allowed because there will not be an existing CBA to which you can sign a player under terms of same. But that is just me thinking out loud. Anyone know for sure.
If this is accurate I think we will see a rash of signings and re-signings and extensions over the next 5-6 days.

For what it's worth I have read that no contracts can be signed between Sept 15 and a new CBA.Hockey Widow wrote: My thinking is that since the CBA expires on the 15th no new contracts will be allowed because there will not be an existing CBA to which you can sign a player under terms of same. Good question and my guess is that since he signed before the expiration of the CBA the terms would be allowed to run, that is the Jets would have one week to match or not. But I am guessing.

Yeah I've been wondering the same thing.
HW could be right, or perhaps offer-sheets are not allowed within 7 days of an expiring CBA?

Hmmm.... u could be right Clam. In an interesting turn of events, I heard Davd Pratt say the same thing today. He said that he doesn't think Jamison has the money to buy the coyotes, the NHL will run the coyotes for one more year, then move it to Quebec or something. He also said that Doan will then sign with Vancouver.
Guess it's not over yet and we'll see what happens soon.
