It is however not uncommon for ownership to be involved when star players are moved and we are run by committee.

With Luongo gone to Florida, Gillis has cleared $2M in cap space. Now Daniel has been placed on LTIR. There is a lot of cap room now for Gillis to monkey around. He has some crazy wiggle room that he didn't a week ago. Let's see what he does with it.

He'd be stupid to piss around with draft picks for rental players at this point.

With Daniel going down and Luongo dealt, this team isn't making the playoffs. Overpaying for a rental would not get us into the dance, why bother? Let nature run its course, pick (another) top-10 prospect, and rebuild properly. This team is so far away from being in the same conversation as Chicago/Pittsburgh it's silly.

Luongo would not make a difference. The team just cannot score goals. Having Matthias can only improve the situation, not making it worse.

For him to be a buyer at this point would definitely be heading down the Calgary way.

Absolutely no way Gillis should be a buyer.

Either make a 'hockey deal' (like what I'm hoping they do with Kesler) to get younger, bigger, and faster,

OR, you become a seller (i.e. Hansen for a draft pick or a prospect, for example).

Add pieces for the NEXT core. This one is finished.

Agreed, but this might be a good time to unload some vets and load up some picks and prospects.
