Thanks!Per wrote:Hilarious!Strangelove wrote: "Lies, damn lies, and statistics."
I dunno Per this list of death rate per country:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_so ... death_rate
... tells me the death rate of Americans is LESS than that of Swedes!
So what does it all mean??
Are Swedes falling down open manhole shafts?
Are Swedes killing off other Swedes with hard-to-detect poisons (murders deemed "natural causes")?
Are incompetent Swedish cops finding bodies beaten to death with rocks and ruling these deaths "suicide"?
Are a high percentage of Swedes being struck dead by God?
I dunno, fuckin stats eh Per?
Personally I'd rather be shot to death than beaten to death with a rock but that's for another thread....
Just to add a little perspective.
http://www2.macleans.ca/tag/homicide/No wonder Topper has seen so much violence in his day!Murders per 100,000 population:
1. Honduras 82.1
2. El Salvador 66
3. Ivory Coast 56.9
4. Jamaica 52.1
5. Venezuela 49
6. Belize 41.7
7. Guatemala 41.4
8. St. Kitts and Nevis 38.2
9. Zambia 38
10. Uganda 36.3
.
.
103. United States of America 5
150. Canada 1.8
It proves that Swedes are a bunch of pussies!Per wrote: Yes, Sweden has a much older population than the US, which proves exactly what?
Sorry (no, REALLY!) for that last comment, now here's what I was up to:Per wrote: So, tell me again, what are you trying to prove?
1). A little jab cuz YOU, when presented with stats you didn't like, replied: "Lies, damn lies, and statistics."
TWICE!
Oh yes, the Great Strangelove remembers!
2). Statistics truly CAN be deceptive.
3). The number of murders per capita in America is not that bad when put in global perspective.
4). Murders make up only a minuscule fraction of the of the deaths in Sweden and America.
Only 1 out of 250 deaths in America... WATCH OUT FOR THAT MANHOLE!!!... involves a gun.
2.5million people die each year in America (only 10k by gunfire).
Your average Yank is twice as likely to die from Parkinson’s Disease as a gunshot.
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr60/nvsr60_03.pdf (page 5).
Yeah, so death by gun isn't anywhere NEAR as big a deal in America as your stats indicate.
And/or maybe murder is slightly more accepted in America than other civilized nations.
If so, who are you to attack the culture of another nation?
(after ALL they have done to make the world a safer place for silly little Swedes such as yourself)
Hmmm??
Perhaps a slightly more violent nature is part-and-parcel of being called upon to be the "World Police".
That's alotta stress there Bucko!
Perhaps if you took their guns away they'd use knives instead.
And if you took away the knives: SPOONS!
Also, shouldn't we subtract the # of lives SAVED by gun-use (murders prevented) from the number of deaths by gun?
Yes, THAT would be a more FAIR way to assess the impact of guns on a society... wouldn't it?
WOULDN'T IT??!!!
But YOUR stats don't take THAT into account do they Per.
DO THEY??!!!
OH NOooooo.
Therefore your drop-in-the-bucket stats lie.
Good day and Merry Christmas....
