The Presidensts Trophy

Is the biggest faggy, over-rated trophy in all of sports. If I hear any more crap about how awesome it is to win it, I will fucking puke. It is so not an indication of how one team will perform in the playoffs, in fact, it's a fucking monkey on your back, a big fucking silverback just whaling away on ya while you try and haul it around during the playoffs. A big waste of fucking time, who the fuck cares.

Nice!

I agree it matters nothing to the playoffs. It was nice to have won it last season, but it's nothing to brag about.

I honestly hope that banner goes up sometime in August with nobody in the rink. This season had nothing to celebrate, at all.

Just to play Devils advocate. The SC requires 16 wins, the Presidents Trophy take 82 games. In most sports the League champions are celebrated...the excepition Hockey

Frustration, jealousy, or Monday morning blues?

The answer is simple. Stop watching Bettman's playoff circus.

Don't worry, be happy. Spring is here. Fuck the NHL. ♫

I agree, let's finish 8th on the last day of the regular season, then go on an unpredictable tear, with a uber-hot goalie and a dark horse mentality! 8-) Travel is optional*

Indeed.

The Presidensts Trophy is a shit bag.

The Presidents trophy, while also uninspiring, is not nearly as bad however.

Let's also go down 3-1 in the first round then win 3 straight in overtime. That should easily get us into the finals.

Ah shit, that didn't really work out either. The President's sponsored trophy team won that one.

Yeah, at the end of the day the President's Trophy is like the Miss Congeniality award at the pageant. The expectations of this team were so much higher so no way this can really compensate.

What the President's Trophy does signify is that the team had a hell of a season to remember. I watched some games I PVR'd from this past season the other week and it brought back to me that compared to other seasons there were a lot of good memories.

Dude, would you feel better if the team bowed out in the first round as the 8th seed? Would it hurt less?

Try telling teams like the Islanders, Oilers, and the leaves that the President's Trophy means nothing. Try convincing them that it was better to have had their season than the one the Canucks had. At the end of the day, the boys did not win the Cup. Only one team can, but you don't see all the other fans pissing on their team or their season because they didn't win it all.

So the rules changed when the playoffs came. ODDLY enough the game was called in favour of teams built like the Nashvilles, Los Angeles, Phoenixes, and the Dale Hunter-coached Washington Capitals. So should Gillis go build a team that's a question mark to make the playoffs, but squeaks in and hope that the league is still calling the playoffs the way they did last year? What if the southern US team load up on skill, or Mike Illitch finds some more incriminating photos, and the league all of a sudden calls things in favour of skill teams? Gillis can't just chuck this team in the bin because of 2 President's Trophies and no Cups.

I thought we were past the jersey-binning, stick-tossing period.

Since when? Apart from Premiership Football (i.e. soccer), in which there are no playoffs to begin with, all the other major sports elevate the playoff winner above the regular season winner. I don't actually recall who finished first in the standings in the NFL, NBA, or MLS last year. Playoff winners I do remember, though.

Well that's a pretty NA view of the world sports.

True, but NA major leage sports are somewhat unique in that they have both regular and post-season winners. There's nothing comparable on the world sport stage. Tennis, cricket, F1, boxing, football/soccer, rugby ... out of those only tennis is remotely similar in that there are grand-slam winners and then the #1 ranked player, with similar jeers for the latter who hasn't won any of the former, Wozniacki and Safina being examples of this.

So hockey isn't really that unique when compared with other sports with similar trophies ... it just so happens that those are NA sports.

Soccer and One day Cricket both have world Cups, as does Rugby.

...who won the NFL, MLB, NBA regular seasons last year?

All they win is seedings no?

Am I drawing a complete blank here?
