Btw... whereas Euros make up 22% of skaters in the NHL, they make up 26% of the skaters on the five teams still in the race for the cup...

Just sayin'.

Devils 40% (8/20) Kovalchuk, Zubrus, Zidlicki, Elias, Sykora, Ponikarovsky, Larsson, Volchenko
Coyotes 27% (6/22) Boedker, Klesla, Hanzal, Vrbata, Ekman-Larsson, Korpikoski
Capitals 25% (5/20) Ovechkin, Bäckström, Semin, Hamrlik, Johansson
Rangers 25% (5/20) Gaborik, Ansimov, Strålman, Fedotenko, Hagelin
Kings 15% (3/20) Kopitar, Voynov, Loktionov
Whatever you do, always give 100 %!

...speaking of which.

Ilya Kovalchuk is a helluva hockey player who walks a line completely contrary to the anti-euro theme.

Dude could play for my team any day.

Way better all around player than his countryman up in DC.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I'm pretty amazed right now at how minimal Ovechkin's contribution to the Cap's success is. This guy has huge skill, but he's not achieving hardly anything. Is he actually THAT easy to check? He barely gets any shots, either. The Caps might be well suited to trade him if he didn't put people in the seats.

Didn't ya know? He's a heartless gibberish talking Russian that plays drunk. Spends his summers hanging out with Luongo stalking teenage girls to boot.

I think you forgot a certain goalie on that team... ;-)

... and could possibly add Josefsson and even Hedberg to the Devils.

Think I'll cheer for Phoenix from now on... would be good to see Aucoin and Pyatt with a cup.

Sure, but I was only talking about skaters, and I only included players that have actually played in the playoffs.

There's actually a higher ratio of Euro goalies than skaters in the NHL, as a percentage of the total in the respective categories. 33.7% this season, ie roughly a third.
9 Swedes and 8 Finns have played in the crease in the NHL this season. 6 Russians, 3 Czechs, 2 Slovaks, 1 German and 1 Swiss goalie. And then of course 42 Canadians and 17 Americans.

Of the five teams still in the running, the Devils are the only ones to have used more than one goalie. Thus if we only count goalies that have played, Lundqvist and Hedberg make up one third of the total (2 out of 6), which is the same as the NHL average.

If we do include the bench warmers... not sure if Vokoun is back or not? If so it'd probably be 3 out of 10, or 3 out of 11 if we still include Sabourin. Shrug. That'd be 30% or 27%, ie slightly below average. If they still dress Sabourin as their backup it's a mere 2 out of 10, or 20%, but then goalies are a much smaller population, so each individual has a greater impact on the total. If the Capitals' goalies had been healthy, it'd been 4 out of 10, ie 40%.

Right, my bad... should have known I couldn't prove you wrong on stats like that ;-)

I understood why you didn't include Josefsson though. But if healthy he would have been a relatively big part of the team, which is hard to say about Hedberg.

Anyway, one can't really say that any of the remaining teams are carried by the european players, not like the Detroit of 08. Devils comes close perhaps. And Lundquist is obviously a key guy for Rangers. Ovechkin/Backstrom/Semin not too shabby either.
