Just a thought.. and this really only applies to this thread because it occurred in Columbus' offseason, but it may have ramifications for ours.

When the BJs hired Scott Arniel they signed him to a three year deal - this year they fired him after less than two.

During the playoffs, the Canucks received permission from the Blue Jackets to hire Arniel as an advance scout, and did so.

Does this get Columbus out from under the last year of Arniel's contract? Did the Canucks do the BJs a solid?

Does Scott Howson now owe Mike Gillis?

Vokouns rights traded to Pittsburgh for a 7th round pick.... guess Toronto is out of luck there...

The list of goalies get shorter and shorter despite botchford's yammering on 1040 where a bag of pucks will diminish Lou's value.

Still an interesting off-season.

According to Sportsnet, Columbus is still paying Arniel.

The supply of available goalies is dwindling.

It's looking like a very good year to have an elite one available for trade.

And the number of teams that seemingly need a tender is not decreasing.

Haha.. oops. Thankfully Ray Shero did me (and MG) a solid and gave us something to think about for the day.

It’s been slow going in the dog days of the off season. Maybe the calm before the storm.
..Columbus ...
Hope this cooperation between Gillis and Howson (on Arniel) means they’re comfortable dealing with each other. Columbus has some interesting assets: Nash; Umberger; & prospects (Johanson, Moore,..).

A little rivalry in the locker room might spice things up.

Well well well.....the Penguins just traded with the Capitals for Vokoun and then inked him to a 2 year deal.

TSN is speculating that he will likely be the backup for Fleury, I'm thinking he is more likely the insurance policy against Fleury. I would expect that Pittsburgh is hoping Vokoun will push Fleury and perhaps be the veteran mentor he has never had at the pro level.

Regardless, I think the message is clear that Fleury has lost the faith of the Penguins management.

Could be, considering many pegged him ahead of Luo for the next Olympics as starter. Some pagans think this could be a sign and trade too??? Ah, a little controversy in PA.

.............

What is Thomas doing? Is he really taking his family to Colorado for the year to live in the bush? Does he make a pittance next yr and wants more money?

Weird....why not just straight up retire. Same affect on the Bruins cap hit.

You can't trade a retired player.

So your suggesting it's a ploy between Chillierli (sp) and Thomas to trade his contract to a cap floor team and have him not play this year, amirite?

Thomas is a mature man who realized that he has made more money than he ever could have imagined playing a sport he loves, he also realizes that time is more important than money when you have an excessive amount. He was not an 18 year old rookie who got to be the playboy when he was young,he was scraping by in the minors providing for a family. He has won the Stanley Cup,Vezina 2x, and the Conn Smythe...not bad for an old man in the sport and he seems to understand that there will be a life after all the cheering is over! How many people on this site would quit their jobs if they won the 40 million on Friday night. All of us! Good for you Tim!
