You're right about Schenn Doc.
I watched him for 4 years with the Rockets. He was better than Tyler Myers in junior. If it wasn't for numbnuts Wilson he would have played at least 1 more year of junior and who knows where he'd be ranked now,but I suspect he'd be a top 2 D.
How many 18 year-old D make it to the show? They are few are far between.
I think with the right coaching Luke could again get his confidence back and be a great addition for us. Besides if Looooooooooooooooooou goes Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke is perfect.

Love to get Hedman over here, but I keep hearing he's untouchable, as of course is Stamkos.

I could very well be wrong about Schenn, but personally I'd gamble on him if he came cheap.

Agreed, buying low for a potential blue line RS stud dman is a gamble MG should make, and it is inline with MG in wanting to get younger players on decent contracts.

I'd say LS should be a beast of a dman when he hits 25-26, additionally him and Edler could form a solid duo for years to come.

We then could deal Ballard for help up front, since signing a top UFA in a small supply this offseason will once again be way above our cap space pay grade.

I read somewhere after the trade deadline Burke offered Gillis Schenn for Hodgson and was told Hodgson is not available. Burke was pissed when Hodgson was moved a few weeks later. If Gillis wasn't interested in Schenn for Hodgson I'd be surprised if Gillis would accept Schenn for Lou, unless that 5th overall-pick was also involved.
BTW, NOT A FLAME ... JUST AN OBSERVATION ... :P

People, Luke Schenn is not that good. He isn't the first disappointing high pick in the draft and certainly won't be the last. Being an excellent junior player means diddly. How many of those flash in the pans have we seen? Trillions. If I'm Gillis and I am talking trade with Burkie, Gardiner is the one I want. His ceiling is soooooo much higher than Schenns. Super skilled, super smart. Schenn is another David Booth Numbskull, why do you guys want to litter our line-up with a bunch of Brent Sopel numbskulls? Another painful fact about Schenn, he is almost as bad as a fighter as Weise.

It isn't hard to beat up Weise, BlobbyCat that's why I said 'almost as bad as a fighter as Weise'. BTW, whats that Sam's Pub like off Kingsway in that newish development in Poco is it? Saw it on my way to POCO Building Supply.

Sorry I missed this one earlier. Certainly not many. And I'm sure we could reasonably ask for Schenn and the 5th overall and Burke would consider it.

Depending which media puppet is flapping their gums Luongo, Kipper, Thomas and Jonathan Bernier are available. Brodeur is a UFA but let's get real, he ain't playing anywhere but Jersey or a beer league. Not much else on the UFA list (Harding? Vokoun? Turco?).

WDF (wot da fock) buds, Bernier isn't even near being a **starter** yet, let alone "Top Ten".

Missed the first part of my response. All I'm saying is that Luongo isn't the only good goalie available this summer. Rick Nash might be the best player available, but his asking price could be too high. Is Luongo THAT much better than Kipper to offset the increased cost? That's what we'll find out when these pieces start moving.

Bernier's pedigree is remarkably similar to Schneiders (first round picks, AHL goalie of the year awards) and Bernier is 2 years younger. So while (just like Schneider) he isn't a starter yet, he will be in demand. If Tampa has their sights set on CS, and Gillis insists they take Luongo, they could very well pick up Bernier.

Sounds like the difference between Tampa having the best goalie in the SE and a top 3 goalie in the conference (Luongo) and TB hoping they have a top 4 goalie in the SE. (Bernier)

Well its no secret that Stevie Yzerman made an offer on Jonathon Bernier at the Deadline. I don't know where people get the idea that Luongo or Schneider are the only options for Tampa.

I'm willing to by my corvette that Luongo ends up in Toronto.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Tim Thomas go to Tampa. Him and Martin St Louis are buddies, a cheaper route to go for Stevie Y than Luongo or Schnieder, since he would not command as much in return, only one year left on contract, etc.

Strangelove,

I've been thinking about your Luke Schenn idea and I actually do like it (for the reasons you mentioned), but I have a few questions:

1) Do you think a guy like Luke Schenn can realistically be a difference maker for next season? My concern with getting a guy like Luke Schenn, is that he won't help up next year.......kind of like how Zack Kassian was bloody useless for us this year. While it's great that both of these guys might become good/great players one day, I still believe that our window to win is next season.....before this team starts to head into gradual decline.

2) If we're dealing Luongo to Toronto, then I think it needs to be more than Luke Schenn and a first. It needs to be Schenn, a 1st, and a prospect (I don't expect James Gardiner, but some other decent prospect).

The one advantage that we do have in dealing with T.O., is that they won't be in the market for Tim Thomas or Mikka Kiprsasoff, since Toronto are not looking for that "final piece"........but instead, are looking for more of a long term solution.
RIP Creeper. You will be missed.

I'm not too worried about which goalie stays. Pros & cons either way.

We need immediate as well as lasting benefit in return for our 1A/B. More than a Schenn.

Give me a package that brings Ted Purcell or James van Riemsdyk.

Plus they get a starter four years younger than what they had this past season. :?

The way van Riemsdyk's played the first couple of games this round, Philly has likely tightened their grasp on him. Damn the Flyers are just swimming in young forwards. Which one would they give up? Apparently Couturier's hockey IQ is extremely high, everyone knows about Giroux, Schenn's a huge talent, Simmonds brings them an element of toughness, van Riemsdyk's size and skill is rare, Voracek is a solid set up man - very gifted with puck, Matt Read has a solid offensive upside and even Eric Wellwood is going to be a solid 3rd line guy who can shut down opposing players and play strong PK minutes. Then you have the vets Briere, Hartnell, Jagr.
