A guy that comes to mind that may work well with Kesler is Zach Parise.

Get Kassian in Canucks shape and we could see a decent second line. Or keep Higgins on that line and it could be very well rounded.

What would it take to get Edmonton's first round pick? :D

In a Cap era there has to be value placed on all players like it or not. IMO the 'Nucks have to many players of the same skill set. Maybe Keslers days as a centre have come to an end, ( and if so the question has to be asked why did they trade Hodgson ) assuming there's a skilled centre out there they can get hold of. Richards went to the NYR, TO on the other hand had to settle on Connolly. Right now the team has no 2nd line threat, teams/coaches are at last coming to terms with the Sedins style. You can list players that you want to get rid of but that's mostly because they're average and have duplicate skills. Some players are playing roles that they're not suited for or we're trying to get some thing out of them they don't have. Of all the forwards we have ONE play maker and then a list of average wingers. It's just a case of pickum and this is where the value part comes in.

Most of all the Pro scouts have to be changed up. Eric Crawford ( he of the Kassian is great brigade ) and Lorne Henning. Either they're getting the wrong instructions as to what we need or they're unable to spot a hockey puck at fifty paces.

IMO every line would preferably consist of a play maker, a shooter, and a corner man. Our current 2nd line has an entire line of shooters, individuals.

There has to be a re think of what we need going forward, identify the best of that bunch and do what ever is required to find/obtain one, and to me it's a play making centre. The team became, apparently by choice, a one line team again

The next questions is will Schroeder be that player or is the shelf life of the Sedins so short that we need to find a ready made play maker, can we afford to let Schroeder a year to settle in.

The Canucks had some thing special but it's slipping away. Yes they won the Presidents trophy but IMO from the Boston game forward it was a lot of smoke and mirrors, good fortune rather than good play.

If Mike Gillis is to be "the man" it's going to interesting to see what his reaction is this summer. I doubt if we're going to hear much more than the party line, but it's his action that will do the talking.

The defence has some skill but frankly opposing players have little fear to the Canucks crease. The skill set is average to above average. There 4 keepers IMO Edler, Bieska, Tanev and Hamhuis....the rest you can find similar skills any where. To much and to many journeymen D rather than bring replacements ar required up from the minors in case of injury.

Goal tending which ever way you go you win as long as it includes Schneider :D
cheers

Well, at least we won the President's Trophy. *LOL*

Seriously, First order of business, the Canucks need to decide on Lou/Schneids. It was nice to have 2 goalies that can play, but they both want to and deserve to be the #1 top dog on a team. I'd rather keep Schneids; however if Lou wants to stay, then we'd better get a kings ransom return for Schneids. Just sign a cheap backup who can play 10-20 games or promote Lack to full time NHLer. I personally like Lack alot and would luv to give him a decent shot to become full time backup.

Canucks need to decide on Pahlsson/Malhotra. Having them both around is a bit redundant, they're too similar. If the Nucks think the eye injury has hampered Manny too much to be effective on the 3rd line anymore, then it'd be best to trade, cut, buy out or waive Manny and use that money to sign Pahlsson. Manny's $2.5 is too much for a 4th liner/face off specialist. LapDawg should go back to the 4th line and he's perfect cuz he can push to play on the 3rd line as well.

Salo/Raymond: like them both, but might be best to let them both walk. One looks like he's getting too old and the other looks good at times with his speed and flash and dash, but doesn't produce the consistent results.

Booth/Ballard: Never really liked them both, would be nice to move them mainly cuz of their salaries. They cost too much for the roles they play and would be nice to free up some salary to use elsewhere. I was surprised AV played Baltard that much in the playoffs and ahead of his fave Rome too. Baltard actually played decent out there, so they might keep him around. I'd like to keep Romeo around, if he's willing to stay for the 800k/year. I think he's the perfect 6th-7th D-man, but he might see greener pastures elsewhere.

Was watching Seeking Stanley, and Cliffy Ronning was saying the Nucks could really use a legitmate pure goal scorer. Would be nice, but not sure who's realistically available for this club. After the Nucks lost to Boston, I felt the Nucks were too soft/small throughout the lineup and Gillis didn't do much to address the issue. Kassian, Bitz and Weise was it and all were used sparingly. PJ Stock was saying the Kings with their bigger bodies was just too much and intimidating for the Canucks; Kings basically adopted a Phillie type approach by getting bigger bodies that can play, teams built to win a gruelling 7 game series. I think he's right and there are a few free agents I would luv to see the Canucks make their priorty: Shane Doan, Bryan Allen and Travis Moen. Obviously a lot can change between now and July 1st, but those are the type of guys I think we need more of. I don't mind sacrificing some skill and points in the reg season for a few foot soliders that are tuff to play against, play with a lot of grit/jam and score some ugly, hardworking, greasy goals.

I wouldn't panic too much yet. I think we still have a 1-2 year window to try to win with the core of this team, but obviously there needs to be some major retinkering with some of the supporting cast. Losing to an 8th seed was obviously disappointing and a setback, but hopefully a long 6 months will give our guys a chance to heal up, work on some things and make them hungry to come back with a solid season next year.

Yeah if we trade Edler for Weber for instance, Hammy would move up to play with him, and then all we would need is to do is get another tough stay at home dman to play with Juice.

Bally - Tanev is a decent combo albeit expensive for the bottom pairing.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

If what we saw in the latter portion of the year and in the playoffs from Ballard is a player getting his mojo back Shea Weber and Keith Ballard could look pretty good together as a duo.

Nashville keeps their American and moves Weber we can use Edler in the deal...

I suspect Luongo has trade value as there are a startling number of teams needing goaltending. The question is how long will his list be - the longer the more value he'll have.

But, what is interesting is the suggestion the new CBA for next season may allow for another one time buyout of players to allow teams to get under a reduced cap?

I love the idea of Weber. But I would think the deeper Nashville goes into the playoffs, the more he'd be willing to stay.

Here's hoping Rinne regresses next series as Detroit dominated the Predators. But do you see him regressing against Phoenix?

Very possibly true.

However, can they afford to keep he and Suter both?

If not a couple of things may work in our favour if a deal is to be made.

Hammer is a close buddy of his.

Obviously he is local.

The salary consideration may work itself out (i.e. Edler new deal 5 mill Luo 5.3 mill (both dealt Edler in the deal for Shea) versus Weber 7 mill Schneids 3.5 mill type of thing).....

Why?

Moot?

A deal can get done, no one (named RL) is getting bought out.
