I hope Salo stays in that 6-7 role. He's been a leader for us and he obviously can still play, just not every game, every night. Play him on the bottom pairing and on the PP.

You simply cannot have a top-4 guy taking "scheduled maintenance days" late in the season.

Are you talking about Bieksa?? As for Salo, I agree that the Canucks could use him as a 6-7 role. When he retires, Salo could always be the defensive coach for the Canucks (only if he stays in North America).

I like Salo and wouldn't mind seeing him stay as a coach eventually.

But if I remember his locker-clean up interview, he said he wanted to play - either here or elsewhere (including Europe).

Sami's an old warhorse. He hears the bugles and he wants to charge.

Salo was given the game off by coach Alain Vigneault who wants his veteran defenseman healthy and not tired for the playoffs. He was replaced by Andrew Alberts in the lineup. "He's old," coach Alain Vigneault joked. "I'm kidding. He gave us four pretty solid games in six nights. I just thought fresh legs would be the right thing to do."

Salo is the perfect depth d-man. But we simply cannot rely on him being in the lineup or count on him for production. Sami Salo to Andrew Alberts is a huge fucking drop in talent.

I guess it depends what his salary and ice-time demands are. I'd be thrilled to have him in the 6-7 hole, but if Sami truly feels he can play a more meaningful role, good luck to him elsewhere.

This is where our illustrious coaching comes in.

Give him a Ballard he'll raise you a Sami.

AV is a great "feel good" story. I think he does have one more full season in him, contract or not.

Hindsight is powerful. Let's hope Veenyo can lead the team next year.

Well, Radulov and Kosi were suspended for a game for missing curfew (guess the strippers in LA were spectacular!) and the Preds are looking pretty human against the Yotes.

Guess Canucks fans should pray the Yotes sweep them cause it increases the probability that some big names might want out of the preds... like Weber.

My money is Suter goes to Detroit.

So if Gomez does indeed get a buy out should Gillis look into offering him cheap one year deal?

It's an interesting thought. If you're into puck possession stats Gomez didn't have a very bad season - he was actually one of the better Canadiens by that measure, and if you buy the notion that a player's on ice shooting percentage (11 out of 17 habs forwards with 20+ GP) and on ice save percentage (15/17) tend to regress to the mean then it's likely that Gomez should have slightly better production and significantly better defense next year.

If you're into the bottom line and believe that some players just don't contribute to offense no matter what the numbers say (ie. even a high number of shots don't matter as they are "low percentage," or that a specific player is on the ice for a poorer save percentage because they are surrendering grade A opportunities) then Gomez was one of the worst Canadiens forwards last year. It also doesn't help that he is pretty much the opposite of Gillis' stated goal of getting younger and bigger.

Bottom line, if he is waiting for a team to call him in mid-September and the Canucks are looking at giving a kid like Jordan Schroeder a chance to make the team, I could see Gomez as a potentially interesting option to give him some competition.

At the very least he could fill out our exhibition roster like Owen Nolan did.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I'll just go ahead and say the same thing about bringing Gomez to camp that I said about Nolan:

Hell NO, stick a fork in him instead.

Yes, why create a state of dystopia in camp? :mex:

Luongo, *Weise, 2nd rounder for L Schenn, 1st rounder, and cap trade Armstrong.

Ballard for Matt Cullen.

Sign a big nasty dman to help patrol our crease.

SEDINS BURROWS
BOOTH KESLER HIGGINS <Keep this line together, they were great, don't know why our jack adams winning coach didn't keep a solid line together.
HANSEN CULLEN ARMSTRONG
MANNY LAPPY BITZ

EDLER SCHENN
HAMMY BIEKSA
BIG DMAN TANEV

Don't know what to do with Ray, maybe package him and Bally for a better 3rd line center?

Weiss plays for FLA. We dont have him....yet! :P

Lappy should be the third line center IMO. Manny to patrol the fourth line defensive FO's.

Luongo isn't a cap dump, and I dont think we need to take back a crappy contract at all. Plus, unless all this hubbub about Cory signing for $4+/yr it remains to be seen if he can even handle the 65-68 games a yr. Cory could still easily be shipped off for an equal young prospect who has been groomed appropriately.
