Iron Mike DID make one of THE greatest trades in franchise history.okcanuck wrote:

I am fond of reminding people of that because I don't think a lot of people understand how the trade of 16 helped set this team up for a decade + of success.

I think someone once proved mathematically we would've won the Cup if we kept Trev.
Plus don't forget Linden was great in the community.....

From AV McGiggle Pants to Ron Wilson?
The media here will realize just how good they had it for six years.

I'm thinking Scott Arniel would be the most likely candidate at this point.

One thing we really need is someone who can teach(reinforce) responsible hockey to rookies at the NHL level.
We now have a punch of players who have potential, but lacking solid defensive skills
Kassian, MAG need to learn the right system.
If we bring up Schroeder or Jensen there are a couple more rookies.
Edler needs to
Sombody described Raymond skating around like a "lost puppy" and our power play looked like crap the first couple of games
Is AV the guy that can sort out the chaos?

To be fair, the first powerplay unit really missed Daniel.Zamboni Driver wrote:One thing we really need is someone who can teach(reinforce) responsible hockey to rookies at the NHL level.

Seeing some of the other playoff teams, and their assistant coaches, I wonder if MG will get AV another assistant coach or two.
If AV is a defensive specialist, one type of coach that might be worth their cost would be an offensive forward coach, ie a "power forward" coach. Someone who could bring out the potential in our power forwards. Of course, we only really have two power forwards (excluding Kessler)...I am thinking Booth and Kassian....but someone needs to take them in hand and help them reach their potential. And maybe they could have a go at Raymond as well.
Maybe AV can use the extra time to teach Henrik and Daniel how to play a little better defensively, and can figure out how to cut down on the short handed goals against.

Things are different in the playoffs. We get the same shit reffing in the playoffs as we do the pre fucking season. No consistency between games, or even the refs themselves. Shit that is ok in the regular season is called. The games lool more like exibition games than what playoff games used to look like. Effin BettmanMadcombinepilot wrote:I thought long and hard on this, but I tihnk its time for change. Lose AV, Luongo (for his own good, our media will run him out anyways) Raymond. I hate to say it, but the NHL keeps talking about change and how things will be different in the playoffs, and that is not happening. we need a 6'4" monster for the second line... and perhaps another to play with the twins.
a stud defenceman wouldn't hurt either.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!
Re: Coach AV returns next year? Yes or No
Last year AV gets the team to the SC finals. The consensus as to why they lost is that the Canucks players were unable to deal with the Bruins in your face style of hockey. This year the LA Kings bring a hard fore check and clog the front of their net, absolutely level the Canucks best center man and for the most part play in your face hockey. The results are similar to last year, only a lot quicker (pardon the pun).
Pretty much the same personnel with the same result. While AV may ultimately be the scapegoat the fact remains there is a personnel problem, as to how the team is built and how it responds to teams that play a certain style. If the team as a whole is deliberately tuning out the coach to the extent it results in a first round loss, which I somehow doubt, then there is an even bigger personnel problem and a lack of professionalism amongst the Canuck players, which I again doubt.
Chalk this one up to the evolving business of team sports. Hopefully Gillis realizes certain needs have to be addressed in order to make it in playoff hockey. It is far to easy to point the finger at the coach.

Sitting on the fence with Vignault if he could find a way to bust the fukin trap that teams play against the Canucks. A couple of big bodies with Kassian would help deal with the pain.

What if AV busted out his own trap system of yore that won him the Jack Adams?old calamari wrote:Sitting on the fence with Vignault if he could find a way to bust the fukin trap that teams play against the Canucks. A couple of big bodies with Kassian would help deal with the pain.
Gillis would probably fire him in a second but for shits and giggles, if employing the old defensive system won us a cup in the next few years would you be able to suffer through it long enough to actually give a shit about it by the time we won? A cup at any cost? I am asking sincerely... I really don't know what to think about that. It sure would be easier if we at least got that ONE cup under our belts last year.
