Sadly, this is probably a factor as well. It's getting harder every season, but I'm trying really, really hard not to be jaded.

I thought the Brown hit was obviously charging when it happened, but seeing the replays again a few times, and especially seeing the reaction to the Torres hit has gotten me pissed off about it. I don't see much difference between the two hits; both were charging, both involved players in vulnerable positions (Henrik's moreso IMO), both hits were on unsuspecting players and both involved contact to the head.

"It was the same thing when he was in Vancouver last year, he probably thought that was a hockey play too," said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews earlier this week. "There's no remorse at all I don't think with a guy like that. (There was) a guy carried off on a stretcher and he probably doesn't feel bad about it all.

"That's not hockey to me."

NHL.com is reporting that the result of the hearing won't be published until Sat.

That says to me Shanny is limbering up so he doesn't pull a muscle when he throws the book at Torres.....

or

They are working to hire extra protection for Shanny when Torres gets <5 games.

lol.

My initial reaction was that big market bias was showing again, but reflection makes me think it could be something else.

Torres’ hit on Seabrook didn’t get a suspension last year, while Rome’s on Horton did. Brown’s on Sedin didn’t, and Torres’ on Hossa looks like it will. In each case, there was violent contact with no blood, and suspensions only came when someone got carted off the ice.

The NHL seems more interested in maintaining appearances (and avoiding law suites) than maintaining clear, consistent standards.

The Shithawks have become the whiniest team in hockey, led by their sniveling little captain Toews. Hey Johnathon why didn't you speak up when Keith nailed Dank? Was that a hockey play?

To be fair, wasn't he concussed when Keith nearly decapitated Daniel? He was probably having trouble spelling "cry", "baby" or "whine" in his straw-fed bowl of Alphaghetti.

Yep. And as I mentioned earlier, Toews is talking about remorse the day after Sedin says Keith made no attempts to contact him. Here's Toews telling Torres his shit stinks while he's got Keith's diarrhea all over his face.

No one has mentioned the police escort and the wailing ambulance to the hospital for Hossa while the Chicago inner city continues to rot. Or the Chicago papers running to a police chief to get him to call the hit "borderline criminal" or Tyson Nash getting death threats because he initially said he thought the hit was OK.

Torres gets 25 game suspension
http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/eye-o ... rian-hossa

Shanahan explains that Torres broke not one but three rules on this one play, making it thrice as egregious. First, it was interference, the hit came well after Hossa had the puck and Torres obviously knew that as Shanny points out he tried to play the puck with one hand. Secondly, it was charging as he elevated in his skates before making contact. And third, obviously, it was a hit directly to the head.

At that point it came to the sentencing and when Shanahan added in the fact that Hossa was seriously injured on the play -- he missed Game 4 and won't play in Game 5 either. Then Shanahan got into Torres' extensive history with the department of player safety, including two incidents this season. He takes the time to break down each of the illegal hits that Torres has been punished for in the past in the video.

Eventually you end up with the recipe for a 25-game suspension.

So Brown on Sedin has to be interference as well then. Same amount of time had passed.

Any word on how long the 4 officials on the ice at time were suspended?

We all knew that he'd get the book thrown at him given his history.

What I dont get is how Shanahan can justify Keith only getting 5 games for a clearly dirtier hit.

Show me in the book Shanahan where it says you can't suspend superstars the same way you suspend borderline players.

Wat a croc of shit.

If I were Torres I would appeal the 25 games and use Keiths hit as an example.

brendan shanahan(i refuse to use capitals for his name...he does not deserve that kind of respect) gives Raffi Torres 25 games...bad call...it was a hockey play and possibly he should have gotton 2 games...if that gets ya 25 in the new NHL then Duncan Keith should have got the whole season and 1/2 of next year...Shea Weber should have been banned for 2 seasons(and I am a Weber fan).
