Go with Schneids and never turn back.

I would almost 99% agree with that if it wasn't for the fact that the Canucks could get a shitload for Schneider in the off-season......while Luongo is still significantly above average for a goalie.herb wrote:Schneider, both tonight and long term.
Schneider is younger and doesn't have a terrible case of the yips.
Plus, Luo's love from Vancouver fans has seemingly begun to wane.
Luongo might be 33, but goalies can be pretty damn good until 38.
Despite the contract length, Lou's contract is pretty decent and we've got him locked up.
Luongo is a better goalie than Marc Andre Fleury and Corey Crawford, and yet those goalies won cups with tremendous teams in front of them. Perhaps we can do the same with a Schneider deal?

While we may be able to get more for Schneider, his next contract probably won't have a cap hit of 5.3 million. So are we better off with a deal that gets us a bit less, but frees up more cap room in trading Lou, or do we trade Schneider and free up cap room other ways (i.e. Raymond). The way i see it, we were up against the cap all year and next year will be more of the same with Lou.
Trading Lou, IMO, is the more sound move, albeit probably much harder.

I can't argue with ya Donny. We're both talking about the future and what might happen.
I know one thing. If we go with Schneider Lou will be gone.

Luongo, at most, will fetch us a few gay 2nd round picks in the off-season.
Or Vincent Lecavlier.
Schneider will get us a boatload.

I would be shocked if they don't start Luongo.
I believe that Schneider gives us the best chance to win but...............Luongo is the number 1 and if you don't start him in this game you open the door to too many questions. Based on what i've seen from AV it'll be Lui.

I know, thinking about what the Canucks could get for Schneider makes me pretty excited. There are very good reasons Ginger's value is so high. He is a very, very good goaltender and his ceiling is as high as anybody.Farhan Lalji wrote:I would almost 99% agree with that if it wasn't for the fact that the Canucks could get a shitload for Schneider in the off-season......while Luongo is still significantly above average for a goalie.

However, I think this team still has a 2-3 year cup window, and GMMG needs to go with the best players available. This year, there is no question in my mind that Ginger has been better. Last year it was pretty damn close, but even then, Schneider had better numbers than Luo. If you look past this 2-3 year window, who would you rather have going forward?
I like Luongo and have been a Luongo supporter since day 1 here in Vancouver, but sometimes it's time to move on. To me it feels like time to move on. I think Luongo is not only tradable, but there are several teams with goaltending black holes that would pay a boatload for him.
Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens. Schneider deserves a shot, and Luongo deserves to be a full time starter in this league. No doubt about it this is a goaltending controversy that will need to be resolved by management.

Yes.Zamboni Driver wrote:Does AV stick with Schneids or go back to Lu?
I'm fine with either one.
However, playing Schneider presents an extra risk - after the game. If Schneider loses the last two games of the season, Luongo may be pissed. Enough to sour our room & force personnel change. The stakes are high.

No.
It will also fetch us cap space, out from under his life time contract, away from the perennial issues with the guy and a potentially prime netminder 7 years his junior.
The whole picture dude.

I definitely see and agree with what you're saying, but the truth of the matter is that Luongo is still about 85-90% as good as Schneider.........but with only 25-30% of the trade value.herb wrote: This year, there is no question in my mind that Ginger has been better. Looking at it from the 2-3 year window perspective, combined with "having the best team in front possible", it would still make sense to proceed with Luongo and trade Schneider.
Having said that - the team and fans' lack of faith in Luongo might be too much of an issue to ignore.....which is unfortunate.

In all seriousness though.......
1) Goalies can be good until the age of 37-38. Our "window" is within the next 1-3 years.
2) Schneider will fetch us MUCH more in return
3) Schneider will be getting a massive pay raise sooner than later anyways (eliminating the cap space from a potential Luongo deportation anyways).
4) Luongo is 90% as good as Schneider and will fetch like 20-30% of what Schneider would fetch us.
Re: Game 4 playoff elimination - Luongo or Schneider?
Whoever gets the start, the decision will not just be AV's. For obvious reasons, the starter tonight has major implications for the team moving forward. Basically, if Lou doesn't start, he will not be with the Nucks come September (or July for that matter). Granted, we can probably get more assets in return for Schneider, but will likely save some cap space and unload and elephant of a contract.
I vote Ginger to start. Time to take the team in a new direction. Starts in the net and goes out from there.

I boldly predict three years from now the Canucks will be getting routinely bitch slapped by the Oilers. Schneider or Lou, it won’t matter much then.Farhan Lalji wrote: 1) Goalies can be good until the age of 37-38. Our "window" is within the next 1-3 years.

We have no idea what Luongos future holds. Facts dictate his game is moving in the wrong direction though. (i.e. he is not what he once was mentally or physically)
We do not know that Schneider will fetch us MUCH more in return at all. That is for GMMG to consider and deal with. I mean the great Cody Hodgson only got us Zack Kassian after all.
I don't think Corys next contract puts him in the 5.5 million dollar range. As a template Crawford is in at 3.2 million. Probably pretty safe there.
What is this 90% versus 20%-30% thing, you grab those out of your bushy playoff beard? Not only are those numbers meaningless guesstimates they changed from the last time you posted several minutes earlier.

I am glad Farhan isn't our GM, as you haven't a clue as to what trade value is....
