Name another team that would not have a similar problem playing their #7 and 8 guys in the top 4??? I'd love to be going into the playoffs with a healthy top 6 (Ballard/Tanev as the last pairing). But, in the NHL, injuries are to be expected. If we can get another #5/6 guy, great. If not, we are still one of the best defenses in the league.
I have no problem with Rome or Alberts on the bottom pairing. I have a problem if either or both of these clowns is in the top 4.
MG has cap space with the Ballard injury and he has some picks and prospects ( Rodin, Schroeder, etc) to deal. Mason Raymond could be dealt for a steady d-man in a hockey trade. Ideally Gillis can add a 4/5 RH d-man who is either physical or who can fill in on the PP, along with a top nine forward who makes the team a bit more difficult to play against like Ott or Moen.
The time is now to do more than just tinker tomorrow. KB4 on LTIR is a sign that GMMG sees it that way as well.
