Would the Canucks be in the mix?? A 34 years old right-handed defenseman that has lots of experience. Kubina could definitely play some top-four minutes without looking lost. Would Alberts/Rome + a 3rd rounder do the trick or Raymond straight up??

LIGHTNING KEEP DEFENCEMAN KUBINA OFF ICE AWAITING TRADE

TAMPA, Fla. -- Pavel Kubina appears to have played his final game for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

General manager Steve Yzerman says the NHL team has decided to keep the veteran defenceman off the ice until a trade can be completed.

Yzerman told reporters that no deal is imminent, but that Kubina will be held off the ice as a precaution.

"We've decided to protect our interest and keep Pavel off the ice until this situation is resolved," Yzerman told the Tampa Tribune. "We're making our decisions on a player-by-player and opportunity-by-opportunity basis. We see potential opportunity to improve our club with regards to Pavel."

Kubina holds a limited no-trade clause and has been asked for a list of teams he's willing to go to.

The 34-year-old is earning US$3.5 million in the final year of a contract he signed with Tampa Bay prior to last season -- a deal that returned him to the organization where he won a Stanley Cup in 2004.

Kubina has three goals and 11 points in 52 games this season.

The Lightening would want something for the future. I imagine a second rounder would garner some consideration. Not sure how we afford him, but I don't see the Canucks offering up Raymond for a rental.

He was a pretty good player a few years ago but in the last couple of games I have seen him play he looks really slow.....like Alberts/Murzyn slow with no real physical game whatsoever. He does have a good shot and can move the puck but I really would hope GMMG can find another player if he is indeed looking for a D-man

Depending on the price I don't mind a guy like Kubina, or maybe a Leopold, somebody like that. I really don't think there's much use in spending assets on an 'insurance' guy when Ballard is already on the team and he's played top 4 minutes almost his whole career. It all depends on who is available of course.

I'd still like to see somebody new added to the forward mix who can play in the top 9, definitely not a Rick Nash type but somebody with some grit that can pot a goal or two. A younger version of Andrew Brunette would be nice, I'm just not sure who that player is. Gillis will do something good that we don't expect.

Portzine has said the canucks are not on "the list". According to him Nash has named Bruins, Leafs, Rangers, Sharks and Kings. Portzine covers the Jackets for the Columbus dispatch.

Now that doesn't rule out the canucks as Howson may find a better deal with someone not on the list and then have Nash evaluate the option. I personally couldn't imagine why he wouldn't want to play with the best assist man in the game if that was an option.

Still don't think Gillis even considers Nash. I think he considers Carter well before Nash....and I don't think he considers Carter.

I'd throw a hell of a lot at the Ducks to get Perry or Ryan though...

Best bang for your buck I'd have to say Aucoin and Doan. Both righties both vets and both FA in the summer. Stand up guys who would likely fit with the Canucks. It's good quality depth
cheers

except Phoenix is in a playoff race and they have also said that Doan isn't going anywhere.

I wonder what it would take to pry Andrew Ladd out of the Peg. I know he hates Kesler's guts and the feeling is likely mutual but they are pros so I'm sure they could work it out.

Winnipeg is also in a playoff race. Trading their Captain? Can't see it happening.

Also, Doan has a NMC. Besides, I don't know how many times I have read or heard about him not wanting to leave Phoenix. He is more like Smyth to the Oilers, Linden to the Canucks.

As for Aucoin, it could be a defenseman for a defenseman type of deal, something like Alberts / Rome (if AV permits) for Aucoin.

If we're going to dream..such as Ladd.... lets.... grab Evander Kane :D not very popular in Winnipeg with fans or management I understand. Young bigger and meaner with a huge upside, maybe less expensive

I bet Ladd and Kes would be the best of pals if that were to ever happen. NHL players do a lot of posturing in front of cameras and microphones but they can also go out for beers after punching each other in the face.

Vancouver is one of the deepest teams in the league up the middle, with Sedin-Kesler-Hodgson likely sticking around for the foreseeable future. On the surface, it would appear that Schroeder is stuck in the AHL. This has led to his name surfacing in trade rumors as the deadline approaches (especially with his recent strong play). If Schroeder is able to help the Canucks land a legitimate top-four defenseman who is signed or can be signed for a few years, then using him as a trade asset may be the best move.

Nicklas Grossman, a middling defenseman on a thoroughly mediocre Dallas Stars corps, just went to Philadelphia for a 2nd and a 3rd.

Given that Philly absolutely had to add a defenseman, this would seem to indicate the market for defensemen is pretty barren.. that or they are still planning to add another one.

They are 6 points out and sinking like a stone. They can't win on the road to save their life. I doubt they want to move him either but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see him here.
