On a brighter note, how about Ryan Smyth. He's a UFA at the end of the season would Tamberlini do it...go on Tambo...double dare :D ..............Would Ryan play for Vcr :D

Why would we want him to?

He's slow, an average passer, a below average stickhandler, not going to add physical toughness so far as banging bodies goes, not a great shooter.....he's only effective in front of, or beside, the net.

We are a top team after all and why would he shake it all up after coming so close with essentially the exact same roster. The dreaming we do on here is more of a sport than anything.

To Phoenix - Raymond, Schroeder (Phoenix needs low-salary youngish quality forwards)
To Vancouver - Doan, Aucoin (impending UFAs)

To Montreal - 2nd round pick 2011
To Vancouver - Moen (impending UFA)

To random NHL team - Ballard
To Vancouver - 4th round pick 2011

Dank - Hank - Bank
Booth - Kess - Doan
Higgs - Hods - Hans
Manny - Lappy - Moeny
Weise

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Aucoin
Rome - Salo
Alberts - Tanev
Sulzer

- win Stanley Cup
- re-sign Doan & Moen
We could probably get more than a 4th for Ballard.....alot more. I'm guessing you are moving him because he fits the salary dump needed to get the other 3 players.

I love that forward group you have there.

The defense is fine other than Rome. Alberts is an upgrade on him. I would be willing to move Alberts, Rome, and Sulzer and a 1st round pick if it meant a serious upgrade on the backend. Tough to find a GM willing to take a deadweight, a stay home 6th dman, a potential 3-4 dman and a 1st rounder.

If I'm Gillis I'm telling Vigneault to get Rome out there in situations where he can't possibly screw up, can actually end up looking good, and hope to hell he puts together a string of dazzling games that makes him movable.

speaking of d-man, ya need depth as gillis tells us and i do like the possibilities of adrian aucoin re-joining us or even bryan allen....we gotta be deep there-for sure!
I've thought for some time either of these two would be good additions, especially Aucoin being RH and Allen as a PK guy and frankly not a guy that takes a lot of guff. Still....I'd love to see a big forward to wreck havoc on the opposing defensmen....I'd love to see Chara get stapled :D
cheers

Most of these guys are not "Beasts" as described by you (Physical defensive player with some toughness), or have basically no chance of being traded to us due to their team being a potential first round match up or the player simply being a key piece in their teams future.

In other words the pickings are incredibly slim, which was sort my point all along.
Souray (you heard me) - Beast
- BTW this was the suggestion I found most intriguing.

If Souray could pick up our system and play the right side, I think he could be a good fit on our 3rd pairing.

Lots of toughness and still a good power play guy.

It's a risky move so I wouldn't pay a high price, but he's available I hope Gillis sniffs around.
Well you ended up agreeing there are a half-dozen qualified and possibly-obtained beasts.

And a few more unlikely (though not impossible) candidates.

More than enough.

Like I say, we only need to target ONE.... and hey overpay if needs-be.

True some of the above are more in my 'beast-lite' category, but I get the distinct impression you underrate the beastliness of Kubina, Aucoin, and Sbisa (kid is becoming more beastly by the day - check it! ).

Yeah Minny might go for it, Ballard being a Minny boy & all.

And yeah Zidlicky is a RH shot.

But we need someone more beastly imo....

Ballard, Salo and Edler have been their three best Dmen in the last few games. I know it's tongue-in-cheek about how 'bad' Ballard is, but I've seen improvement.

He at least garners and 2nd round pick ;)

I am not sure the Canucks would really want to do that. Zidlicky is offensively more potent than Ballard but defensively... Besides, do the Canucks need another midget for their defense? Ballard is short but at least he is tough.

Zidlicky, 34 y.o., 5'11", 190lbs, RH, 541GP, 60g, 235a -45, $4m
Ballard, 29 y.o., 5'11", 208lbs, LH, 507GP, 36g, 127a 0, $4.2m

Last season was Ballard's first playoffs appearance in his whole NHL career. Therefore, I think he deserves a second chance.

Why the hell would we trade Keith Ballard, who has been playing well lately, for a small, soft player who can't even get ice time on a terrible Minnesota team?

Yeah the idea of trading for a guy who can't fit into a system or play defense and then goes to the media to air his dirty laundry just seems crazy. But hey he's right-handed!

By the way, since he was scratched against St. Louis so AV could dress a bigger defense corps, Keith Ballard has played six games - in those games (with an average of just 14:40 of ice time) he is +2, has eight hits and eight blocks, seven shots on goal and three fighting majors.
