The fans are cynical because they were fed bullshit for several years about not needing a rebuild, that this management team was capable of "retooling on the fly". The city (and many posters on this distinguished message board) have been calling for a rebuild since Benning came aboard (and even prior). Instead, we got some freak hybrid middle-of-the-road monster for the first couple years. Now that we're actually firmly into rebuild mode, they should be allowed to say "I told you so".

Linden was suppose to be the mediator between team direction/general mgmt and ownership, the guy to convince the owners to consider a rebuild. He's whimping out as he seems to be the one pushing the - make the playoffs/retool on the fly bullshit, which is a tall order that requires horseshoes at the draft table. As Ferraro keeps saying as well as pretty much every pundit out there says " you can't do both" which really points to the fact that linden has either failed at convincing the Aquas of a rebuild or he truly is phoning it in and is just enjoying the job lacking the gonads in directing ownership for a restart. It's like he's running this team like its one of his Club 16's.

Prior to Shanahan entering Leafdom the word rebuild in Toronto was a no go, no Leaf President had the balls to say "fuck you all, we are tearing this down and going full rebuild". Now look at the excitement in that city, but like we saw on the ice, Linden is no Shanahan.

Nearly every fan in this city is crying for a tear down and an end to the Sedin era. It's not the playoffs this city cares about its hope, it's a bright future they want, a beginning of a new chapter. People really need to fuck off with the "this city can't handle a rebuild", that's just Linden listening to the media, instead of his heart. The media does the ying/yang bullshit to create listenership, nothing like a good debate to create listenership, but we need a president who can cut through all that bullshit like Shanahan has.
