Even with their salaries do we reach the cap?
Seriously anyone have some insight. We are only allowed a max 23 man roster correct?

This is the most expensive 23 man roster I can com up with:

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
Marco Sturm ($2.250m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($2.500m)
Jannik Hansen ($1.350m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Chris Higgins ($1.900m)
Jordan Schroeder ($1.025m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Bill Sweatt ($1.200m)
Mason Raymond ($2.550m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Keith Ballard ($4.200m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m)
Sami Salo ($2.000m) / Chris Tanev ($0.900m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.225m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Cory Schneider ($0.900m)

CARRY-OVER BONUS PENALTY: $15,000

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,064,999; BONUSES: $1,275,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $235,001

$235,000 cap space.

So will we leave Raymond and Kesler off the roster to gain as much space as possible as it seems we can't take advantage of the injury relief??

Go with a 22 man roster:

Aaron Volpatti ($0.612m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Victor Oreskovich ($0.605m)

Of course I don't completely understand how this works!!

Where is NYSuk_nuts when you need him?

My take:

Surprised Volpatti made it over Duco. Hope to see Piniz and Bitz back sooner than later, but won't hold my breath on Bitz.

I look forward to seeing Hodgson settle in with a couple of experienced vets in Sammy/Sturm/Higgins while he watches the Sedins do there own magic prior to him hopping over the boards in Hanks relief.

I love the fact that they're starting with a (Rome aside) healthy D group that, along with Luongo/Schnieds, should prove to be the backbone of the club while the forwards return to health. I expect big things from this group as a whole this season. Mobile, two-way, strong puck movement and positionally sound defensively.

Fingers crossed Manny returns to form.

Luongo wins the Vezina. (oops, wrong thread) :P

The injured players are adding up to a lot right now, but I'm not certain if it puts Vancouver over the cap with the ability to use LTIR:

$5M - Ryan Kesler
$2.55M - Mason Raymond
$0.75M - Aaron Rome
$0.7M - Byron Bitz
$0.6M - Steve Pinizzotto
$0.525M - Nolan Baumgartner

Total injured = $10.125M

Andrew Alberts ($1.225m) / Alexander Sulzer ($0.700m)

Yes, the injured players put the Canucks over, so they could place Raymond on LTIR. But I'm not sure if players like Bitz and Baumgartner have to stay on IR at the NHL level. I remember that they couldn't send Sweatt down while injured last season...

I didn't realize Byron Bitz had so many realtives in Vancouver.

One would think we lost the next Cam Neely

What's sad is that a player who has size and uses it and has held down an NHL job before is a lock to make this team (in the minds of most) by virtue of those facts alone.

If the Canucks brass haven't guessed right on at least a couple of Pinnizotto, Duco, VO, Volpatti, etc.. then that line won't be a huge improvement over the last few years when our fourth line has been among the worst in the league.

Unless of course we somehow manage to have all our forwards healthy at the same time.. I'm not holding my breath.

Just out of interest when u say the worst 4th line in the league what is the criteria. I'd think most 4th lines have little impact on score lines and don't get much more than 5 minutes ice a night. It's my opinion their impact is minimal. To be honest I've always believed in the philosphy that what ever the other team throws over the boards you should be able to match. One through 4 you don't want a team to get and edge or victory to build on

DOYLE WOULD’VE RATHER HAD KEVIN HAYES AT 7 YEARS 7 MILLION PER INSTEAD OF J.T. MILLER FOR A LATE 1ST RD PICK
