Asham has been "offered" an in person meeting Tuesday so he should get at least 5 games right? How was what he did worse than what Weber did?

As a handy guide, you can divide the number of games a player should be suspended by the number of millions in their salary to get the actual suspension handed down from the league.

Of course they'll throw the book at Asham. He's a bottom 6 scrub the league is willing to make an example of just as Rome was last year (well bottom pairing in that case). Of course an example only counts if you actually use it as precedent.

You see, I was fine with the colossal Bertuzzi suspension IF the league was going to move forward from that point on and use it as a benchmark of some sort. Of course they didn't unless you happen to be named Brad May or Carcillo or Shelley....

And *poof* goes Chicago's chances against Phoenix.

Andrew Shaw was one of Chicago's top hockey player in the 2nd half of the season.

Big loss to them.

Looked a lot like a dive by Smith on that one. He snapped his head back a lot faster than he was hit, and there didn't seem to be much contact above the shoulder/chest.

So he really got six but since it's the playoffs it is reduced to 3. :D :D How in the hell did Rome ever get 4 games is beyond me.

And there's a LOT of pissed off Hawk fans that would agree with you.

It looked like a little more than a little embellishment to me. I think he stayed down so as to make it look real. But the intent and the contact was there and a suspension was warranted but maybe one game. If he really was rocked why didn't he have to go to the quiet room? I have no problem with the suspension even if Smith is not hurt because the league has to protect goalies and they fucked the pooch on the Lucic hit on Miller. If Asham gets off scott free why not take a healthy run at every goalie?

Oh wait, they can for all other positions so what the hell.

Yeah, there's always been diving Fred.

Remember Pat Burns leaving Claude Lemieux hanging when he was sick of his flopping around.

Now guys know that if they play dead (as you infer with your Henrik comment) the odds of longer suspensions are real.

Speaking of diving I watched the last 12 minutes of the Bruins game last night.

That little Marchand puke dove 3 thrice in that period of time.

One drew a penalty and the other two, while not goading the refs into calls, were on the same shift about 15 seconds apart.

What a goof that one is.....

Beantown...home of your Stanley Cup Champians (sic)...a bunch of goons and a goof...

I thought that we were already there... :?

This shit is going to happen when the refs and the league don't take care of the players. If I guy makes a suspension-worthy move and doesn't get punished, the offended team might need to resort to 'embellishing' to even things up. Ugly? Yes.

We're seeing more fights per game in the playoffs this year than the regular season. We're watching Crosby play silly games like pushing a guy's glove away. We're seeing Kesler do his 'shower the goalie'™ move almost every game. The respect is gone towards the players, the refs and the league.

My guess is that we're going to see a knee jerk reaction from the league and see everything called for a while. Just a guess, but with all of the bad PR over the weekend, something's going to give. The NHL does not trust the refs (maybe rightly so) to make the correct judgement call, so maybe we'll see a crackdown starting tonight?

Whatever - the league is losing respect each day. If they didn't fix anything after Bertuzzi was on Oprah, then they aren't going to fix it. Fans love violence, so let the lions out on the ice and give the players swords. It's only logical progression.
