I'm sure the Canucks will now add Demitra to the inevitable season home opening ceremony for Rypien.
:(

During the 2010 Olympics, the Bronze medal game, Clam and I went together and saw a Superman-like Demitra playing for Slovakia. Although his country didn't win that game, he stood out in that lineup. That's how I want to remember Demitra. I remember Clam and I just smiling at how well he played, and how much talent he had. On top of that, he was an active member of the community in Vancouver. RIP Demo! Thank you for the memories.

The news trickling in that the old Russian planes like the one that crashed were slated for decommission in a year or so, and that the plane was banned from flying anywhere else in the European Union really says a lot about the KHL.

It's been said you play in Russia on your own risk, and despite rich teams, such as Lokomotiv, paying good money for good players, they cheap out on safety initiatives and amenities.

As terrible as it is, plane crashes happen, but knowing that it likely could have been prevented if they were flying a safer airplane will be tough to accept for those close to the victims and fans of the team.

Apparently had insufficient lift and hit a beacon tower.

note as some don't like to look at these things there are pictures of the wreckage and video of the wreckage burning.

Jesus. Crazy shit going down in the world of hockey these days.

If Coco's info is true, it makes this horrible tragedy all the worse. No excuses for flying people on a dangerous rustbucket...

I was listening to the team 1260 edmonton an hour ago. Didn't catch who they were talking with, other than he was involved with russian aviation. This person said that this plane was to be taking out of service in October.

Dear God what incredibly sad news to wake up to this morning. We tend to think of hockey players as heroes and it made me almost cry at seeing how many heroes died in such a tragic way.

An unbelievable tragedy. I heard it on the radio on the way to work and couldn't believe what I was hearing. Yet another sad day in the world of hockey. My condolences go to the family and friends of those lost today.

Not only was this plane scheduled to be scrapped in October, but this type of aircradt is actually banned in the European Union because it doesn't meet the safety standards....

Rather than getting rid of them, the Russians have just reassigned them for domestic use.... :?

Given the wild speculation going on around Belak, I'd like to know if the pilot was a chronically depressed 'roids monkey or if he was just another ex-commie fermented potato junkie? Did he get any bizarre sexual gratification from the crash?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Nagging shoulder injury? I hear they are worse than concussions.

Seems the only surviving player is Alexander Galimov.
He has however suffered 90% burns and is in critical condition in an ICU. :(

Galimov was born and raised in Yaroslavl and has been with Lokomotiv throughout his career.
I think he played with Ovechkin at the WJC.
