11/12 Training Camp Thread
As the end of Summer nears, Canuck players begin to trickle back into town in preparation for another big season.
Daniel Sedin, Sammeulsson, Edler, Rodin among others already spent the week practicing at UBC with Dave Babych and Dave "the Key" Gagner running drills.
In more recent news, Manny Legace and Steve Begin will join Todd Fedoruk and Owen Nolan on the growing list of veteran players signed to a Pro Try-out contract.

Plenty of intriguing story lines surrounding the available roster spots following the departure of Ehrhoff, Torres, Glass, Ryp and the expected absence of Raymond and Kesler to start the season.
Let the fun begin.

FINALLY Legace will get a shot at being the Canucks' #1. Only took 3 GM changes.
Was Babych associated with the Canucks in an official capacity last year?

Begin is another one of those irritating SOB's to play against. It would seem MG is indeed sick of his guys being pushed around. Legacy would be the perfect fit to back up Lack in Chicago. Do we have any goal-tending hopefuls to give him a run for his money?

Yes, it certainly seems like MG is adding sand paper to the line up. Lets hope he finds the right assholes who can also play a little.

You know once upon a time, there were an abundance of those guys, well at least to me. These days, the discrepancy between a good player and a fringe player seems to be more evident.Hockey Widow wrote:Yes, it certainly seems like MG is adding sand paper to the line up. Guys like McSorely were tough but they could still make plays and score the odd goal here and there. I looked at the Canucks fourth line and I saw guys that could either play but weren't tough enough or guys who were tough but lacked in their playing abilities. *sighs*
If Nolan is still in great shape and can still play (in a limited role) in the NHL, I think he'd be perfect for the sand paper job.

JOE CANNATA had a terrific season with Merrimack according to most reports. He's 21 and I assume will finish his studies before turning Pro.
Funny the number of posters who have been denying MG looking at adding the A hole factor to the line up, it's becoming pretty obviouse what he's looking for not only for this season but the future to. His first move was to draft Sawyer Hannay in 2010, 6' 4"/200 and he's only 18 and who supposedly only crosses the red line to go to the box. He had a fight and was thrown out of the Mooseheads first game on Saturday. If he can learn to keep his cool and only do what's required. A mean defenseman who simply likes to scrap.
By the way Grenier also play with the Mooseheads scored in the game versus the Wildcats and was playing alongside "the next one" Nathan MacKinnon. I'm told Grenier need to develop some speed
cheers

Or is this just a tactic by MG and AV to push Schneider even harder.....

Re: 11/12 Training Camp Thread
Perhaps it's in response to the news that Finnish goalie Jonathan Lilahti is unable to leave his team and Gillis had an opening in net for training camp. I also suspect Gillis respects players enough to give them a chance to show something in hopes of earning another contract. Best case scenario, said player earns a contract with this club or the Wolves. Worst case, said player walks and signs elsewhere.Meds wrote:Do the Chicago Wolves need a goalie or something?BladesofSteel wrote:In more recent news, Manny Legace and Steve Begin will join Todd Fedoruk and Owen Nolan on the growing list of veteran players signed to a Pro Try-out contract.

Either way, Gillis earns more cred from the PA for giving veterans an opportunity, continuing to strive for Vancouver to be one of the most desired clubs in the league to play for.
At this stage, outside of serious injuries, the only thing stopping this club from another successful year is complacency. There's nothing wrong with a continued influx of competition to get the lesser-lights a little uncomfortable with their respective roles among the 23 man roster.
