Good.
Re: Is Cory Starting?
very nice solid start for Schneider... great to see Corey bring that kind of game .. the team needed that and it helped they gave him some scoring support.

Re: Is Cory Starting?
nice to see the team score some goals from guys not names Daniel
good team support for Schnieds
good team support for Schnieds

Re: Is Cory Starting?
I'm thinking that AV put Cory in for the additional reason of forcing his team to play more honest D, knowing that the kid is in, and Luongo isn't going to bail them out. Playing a tired team helps as well.
Cory had no chance on the one that did go in.

Re: Is Cory Starting?
6 YEARS…6 YEARS…
THAT’S HOW LONG THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS…AND THEIR FANS…HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR CORY SCHNEIDER…
IN 2004 THE CANUCKS DRAFTED SCHNEIDER 26TH OVER ALL…
THE ONLY GOALTENDER THIS ORGANIZATION HAS EVER TAKEN IN THE FIRST ROUND…
AND BECAUSE HIND SIGHT IS ALWAYS 20/20…THE CRITICS HAVE BEEN QUICK TO POINT OUT…
FORMER GENERAL MANAGER DAVE NONIS LEFT “MIKE GREEN” ON THE TABLE…
BUT LAST NIGHT SCHNEIDER DID A LOT TO QUIET THOSE CRITICS…
HE STOPPED 32 OF 33 SHOTS…AS THE CANUCKS BEAT CAROLINA 5-1…
IT IS HIS FIRST “NHL WIN” IN ALMOST 2 YEARS…
BUT JUST AS IMPORTANTLY…SCHNEIDER LOOKED THE PART…
AT 24 HE APPEARS TO HAVE ARRIVED AS A LEGITIMATE BACK UP TO ROBERTO LUONGO…
SOMEONE CAPABLE OF STARTING 25 GAMES…OR MORE…
AFTER TO BACK TO BACK MELTDOWNS IN THE PLAYOFFS…IT HAS BECOME CLEAR TO EVERYONE IN THE ORGANIZATION THAT LUONGO CAN NOT BE EXPECTED TO PLAY OVER 70 GAMES A YEAR…
AND STILL HAVE SOMETHING LEFT…FOR THE POST SEASON…
SINCE HE ARRIVED IN VANCOUVER IN 2006…THERE HAS BEEN A PARADE OF BACK UPS…
DANY SABOURIN…
CURTIS SANFORD…
DREW MACINTYRE…
JASON LABARBERA…AND ANDREW RAYCROFT…
NOT ONE OF THEM WAS ABLE TO WIN ENOUGH GAMES…TO GET INTO DOUBLE DIGITS…
WHICH MEANT…YEAR AFTER YEAR…THE JOB OF SIMPLY MAKING THE PLAYOFFS…RESTED ENTIRELY ON THE SHOULDERS OF LUONGO…
JUDGING FROM LAST NIGHTS PERFORMANCE…THAT MAY NO LONGER BE THE CASE…
SHOULD THIS BE THE BEGINNING OF A GREAT SEASON…THEN IT ALSO GIVES GENERAL MANAGER MIKE GILLIS A BIG CHIP TO PLAY AT THE TRADING DEADLINE…
NO QUESTION…THIS IS A LOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM JUST ONE GAME…
BUT WAITING 6 YEARS FOR ANYTHING…EVEN FOR A BACK UP GOALTENDER…CAN A MAKE EVEN “THE MEDIA”…GO A LITTLE… “CRAZY”…

Re: Is Cory Starting?
You're out to lunch Pratt.
6 years is math plain & simple...insert some logic into that equation and you'd wake up to the fact that goaltenders take longer to develop. Perhaps the Canucks expected Schneider to arrive sooner than 6yrs but w/ Luongo here they had that luxury to bring him along slowly. If the "media" really expected (obviously some of them did) him to crack the lineup as an 18yr old they're nuts.
As a 23 yr old he's right on schedule by my calculations.

Re: Is Cory Starting?
@PRATT: It's one game. Did you even watch it? "An honest defensive game?" Edler and Ehrhoff had their worst game with bad pinches and Bieksian-giveaways through the game.
Re: Is Cory Starting?
The average age when a goalie in the nhl becomes a starting goalie is 26-27.
Players like Luongo starting at such a young age are more an anomaly than the rule. I think with the new cap era though, and the skill level of young goalies coming in to the league today makes it more likely this number goes down. But i think for the most part this age still holds true. Cory i think is right on target.

... and looking VERY solid through 2 periods. He's doing a fantastic job of making the most of his starts (so far) and if he keeps marketing himself like this, Gillis will have an easy time trading him.Robert wrote:He's starting again tomorrow.
