Salo out for 4 weeks
As per Yahoo sports.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=a ... &type=lgns
Not good, but he hasn't really been around or effective when he has been around. Hopefully he can get his health and game back when he returns (but I ain't expecting a miracle there).
O'Brien's injury isn't serious.

Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
I think Salo is going to have to consider a retirement next season. We don't have him signed through next year do we? I feel bad for him because I do like him, some of its just bad luck but he's been crunched enough times now to just not be as sturdy as he used to be.

I'd love to see that money go towards re-signing Ohlund this summer, but we're stuck with it.

Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
Yeah it does... he is still our best offensive dman when he's healthy... But better he misses 4 weeks now and plays healthy for the second half of the season..4 weeks, 40 weeks, 4,000 weeks....does it even matter anymore?

Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
I am frustrated as the next person, but maybe this is a blessing. He can rest his mystery lower body injury (aka groin) and maybe he can be healthy for the playoffs. On the other hand, perhaps 4000 weeks is better because at least we could use the cap money to throw a party or something.Mikodat wrote:Yeah it does... he is still our best offensive dman when he's healthy... Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
No it doesn't matter anymore, and he is not our best offensive defense man. Simply put you have to view it like this guy is not part of the team and get a replacement. If he finds his way back, then we'll use him in limited minutes or on the power play. If we are going to make a move it should be for a solid second pairing defense man.
Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
I would be interested in seeing a list of Salo injuries since he came into the NHL.
Is there a website listing injuries?

Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
kinda like to explode a myth....
Salo is no more injury prone than Ohlund or Bieksa.. and for the last 5 years has been our best Dman
Ohlund... 5 years..
Avg Games played.. 69.8 +/- avg +1 points avg 30.2 shot % 7.1 PIM avg 73.2
Salo .. 5 years
Avg Games played 69.4 +/- avg + 11 points avg 30.2 shot % 7.1 PIM avg 26.8
Bieksa .. 2 complete seasons
Avg Games played 57.5 +/- avg - 6 points avg 20 shot % 4.5 PIM avg 112.5
Ok stats don't tell all the story.. but Sami and Ohlunds stats are nearly identical for injury time and scoring Ollies got a little higher penalty minutes... and Sami's got a better +/1... juries out on Bieksa because of only having played 2 season and still being a " work in progress "... maybe this is his year

Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
Wow I would have never guessed Ohlund was even close to Salo for missed time. I guess these 4 lengthy injuries evened it out:
28-Nov-00 Missed 17 games (eye surgery).
12-Apr-03 Missed the last 18 games of the regular season (left Knee)
19-Jan-08 Missed 19 games (back spasms).
05-Apr-08 Missed the last 11 games of the regular season (left knee surgery).

Re: Salo out for 4 weeks
I don't think you can even compare Bieksa's injuries to Salo's. Bieksa's calf slicing last year can only be described as a freak injury. And this years injury, I'm pretty sure, was from blocking a shot. Salo seems to get injured on the most mundane, ordinary plays. Sometimes you can't even notice, he just doesn't return to a game. The guy is the definition of injury prone.
It's too bad, he's got talent but I think if MG can unload him for a roster player or as part of a package come the deadline it should be seriously considered. He's not worth much to your team if he can't play 6/10 games.
