Bernier to the Nucks!

Post by Mooger35 »

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the club has acquired right wing, Steve Bernier from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second round Draft pick in 2010 and third round pick (Los Angeles’ selection) in 2009.
Peter: Just don't forget our deal, Lois. I sit through this and later tonight I get anal. You hear me? No matter how neat I want the house you have to clean it.

EDIT: He's a RIGHT handed shot. Hockeydb says left... the Canucks.com article says right.

RFA. Like Taylor Pyatt when he got him from Buffalo.

Only 13:20 average ice-time on crowded SJ/Buffalo teams last year, which makes his 16 goals fairly impressive... Hopefully he can match or build on those with the extra ice-time I assume he'll get here....

A great pick up. I liked him when he was drafted. He is big body who isn't afriad to bupm and bash, so he'll do great with the twins. Here's Sportsnet.ca scouting report on him.

Assets Owns great size and outstanding scoring potential. Can play the role of power forward effectively.

Flaws Needs more work on his skating in order to emerge as a top-line winger. Must improve his physical conditioning.

Career potentialTop six winger.

I don't believe his skating will hold him back if he plays with the Sedins.

Wow... Bernier was the focal point of the Campbell deal. I can't beleive the Canucks managed to get him. I only got to watch him briefly as a Sabre, but he impressed me. He's big, tough and willing to fight to the net (and yes he is a right handed shot). He's been one of those players I've wanted to be a Sedin linemate for a couple years now. Finally Gillis does something I likely. Just need to get him signed (hopefully long term).

Just another 3 top-6 forwards Mike ;)

Edit: Sabres fans hate this BTW. I'm a Canucks fan first, but I'm pretty torn on this. Losing Bernier for almost nothing is almost criminal, but luckily he manages to go to the only team I prefer... :D

What amazes me is that his wikipedia entry already shows the trade before Sportsnet even picks it up. Love this though, great move.

Nice. 6'2" 225 RH shot and only 23 years old. Really nice.

Now if only we had a second line...

Well, it's been a craptastic week. I've hardly even been able to concentrate at work, and my wife is a little choked that I've been so grumpy.

However this is really fun to watch... :) Steve Bernier goals, anyone?
