come on, Mats, you know what kind of house you can buy in Van-city for that money? this is a great town, and you'll have lots of fun...skiing and stuff. plus, most of the team speaks Swedish, or English with a Swedish accent, so you'll feel right at home.
how do you convince a guy like that?

if it's only 2 years, it's not a bad strategy--the guys a banger and highly-skilled. he'd definitely do well in the west. a contract like that doesn't mean long term commitment. he can be a captain, etc.
it basically would give gillis two years to find younger players, and continue developing the ones already here. either sign the sedins or trade them, etc etc.

Without Bert, still interesting:
Naslund - Sundin - Raymond
D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Pyatt
Burrows - Kesler - Pettinger
Cowan - Rypien - Brown
Shannon
That's how I'd do it, I don't see Wellwood fitting in the top six and he's not appropriate for a bottom six role, I'd rather have a solid checking line led by Kesler and a fourth "bang and crash and sometimes fight" line that Vigneault always talked about having an "identity", a way of adding grit to this team.
For that depth spot, I'd just as soon use Shannon for $500k less a cap hit than Wellwood.
It's not a bad forward corps, and believe it or not, we'd still end up with some cap space to add at the deadline as I think Naslund would come back very reasonable. We even might have enough room to take a swing at Rolston to place him with the Twins, also on a two-year deal.
With our defense and goaltending, this might be the one or two moves that MG said would drastically turn this team around. We'll see.
