Roberto Luongo Starting Goalie for West All Stars

Post by mattola » Tue Jan 08, 2008 9:11 am

Vancouver Canucks netminder Roberto Luongo, Calgary's Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf, Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson and Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov are going to Atlanta. All five players have been voted into the starting lineups for the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, to be played at Philips Arena on Jan. 27.

Damn! How come nobody voted for Kiprusoff? Start the momentum now for next year: Vote for Kipper, don't vote for Lu!

It's twenty minutes of shinny hockey, not exactly the kind of event that should wear an all-star tender...

Robbie don't need to fly, play meaningless games, etc. Let Kiprusoff do that shyte.

Next year, we should start up a vote for anyone but Roberto campaign so he can get some rest during the all-star break.
38 years without a Stanley Cup and counting.

Luongo doesn't thrive on rest.

Looks like SRsez and randy will get their wish. Lu is skipping the All Star game. Hope the rest does him well.

If there's still a mandatory player per team (the NHL had dropped this for a few years, then reintroduced it last year), I would think Daniel Sedin will get some consideration.

If not, the NHL will pick Mark Messier as its special "Beyond Veteran" selection and tell the Canucks they're represented.

Sounds good to me. Until the travel disparity is at least returned to the old schedule, Canuck Official Position should be no Canuck goes to the All-Star Game. What's the NHL ever done for the Canucks? Let Kiprusoff go.

Robbie Lu gets to go home for a mid-season break, exactly what he deserves. I'd even give him the whole week off, having Sanford face St. Louis & call up MacIntyre for an NHL cheque. Refocus for the stretch run. A great Spring is expected.

As far i know i think Leclaire had the 2nd best votes, so i guess he's going to be the starter. I don't care anyways, i hate Allstar Games.

TSN is reporting that the canucks are letting him miss the game against Dallas on the 29th to give him a little bit longer break and to return from Fort Lauderdale. Hopefully he comes back focused and not all worried about a baby.

It was good of the league and the Canucks to regonize that home is more important than work.

And now, for a politically incorrect interlude....
-----------------------------------------------------------

That's the problem in a nutshell with the NHL trying to perform in the deep south.

A good Canadian girl would just follow the team and happily birth the baby on the flight.

She wouldn't get off the team plane, (during the winter), until it was time to enroll the little tyke in minor hockey.

Home is where the Hart (candidate) is.

When this story broke I wondered what his wife's status was with respect to whether she was actually living in Van or back in Fla.

Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be another Pronger-type issue. Long distance relationships, especially for a young family, can't be good.

From sportsnet's 5 things you probably don't know about Roberto, team mates indicate that he seems pretty satisfied to sit on the couch and watch tv or play poker.
