1st rounder, Ryan Nilsson, and Ryan O'Meara (former 1st rounder) for Smyth

Maybe they re-sign Smyth in the off season.......pretty big gamble

Wow...that's a shock, but if any team is prepared to deal away fan-favorite talent, it's the Oilers. I think that pretty much means they've thrown in the towel this year. I'm kind of surprized they didn't trade away more...

Woa! I thought the Bertuzzi deal was big but this I'm completely floored by! Interesting pickup considering the Islanders very well might not even make the playoffs (though with the pickup of Smyth, you'd think they'd have the edge for the 7-8 spot). Certainly makes life a little more difficult for the top team they could face in the playoffs.

Wow, Burkie missed out on 2 guys he would've killed for (Bert and Smyth) it seems.

Makes the Islanders an instant playoff contender....he's got heart....maybe some rubs off on some of their other stars.

On a night they honour the greatest leader of all time in MESSIEER?!

I think its terrible that Edmonton "couldn't reach a deal" with him ... Oilers always seem to have a tough time keeping guys once their price goes up ... the curse of Peter Pocklington lives on ... I would be pretty burned if I was an Edmonton fan ... once again.

I think he will resign in Edmonton. Good trade for Edmonton. Kick in the nuts to the fans for one year removed from the Finals.

TSN is thinking that Garth Snow got a great pick up in Smyth ... rumour has it that the Isles have also reached a contract agreement with him.

Lowe would be hanged if Snow can get a deal with Smyth...

If Snow can sign Smyth, yes it's a great deal.
If Snow signs Smyth, but misses the playoffs....
If Snow can't sign Smyth, they get in playoffs, it's an okay deal.
If Snow can't sign Smyth, it's a big mess up, like his old GM, Mad Mike Milbury, the Triple-M.

Sounds like Lowe didn't really put Smyth out for a bidding war.

I'm wondering what some teams would've offered had they known he was available. Lowe's press conference should be good, those fans will crucify him if that was the case.

Just heard on TSN that Lowe was really ticked off that a week or two ago it went public that Smyth was requesting 5.5 a year ...

Recently I guess edmonton offered him a 5 year deal and he turned it down cause he wanted more ... TSN is saying that once Lowe gets his back up about things he is a stickler and won't back down ... pride .... dunno but I guess he wouldn't budge.
