I for one seriously hate play on the road. It gets a bit less intersting to watch because when the Nucks score you don't feel like they scored because a couple people are cheering them on.
Our first 3 preseason games on the road.
Out of our first 16 games, 12 are on the road.
But where ever you have a lot of road games, you will have home games to cover 'em,
It does get fans more into the spirit of the game when you play at home, espececially at the start of the campaign.

Im thinkin its better to start on the road... kinda like getting them out of the way. and if you do okay with the road games, thats gonna set up a little more confidence for the home games in the long run. and towards the end of the year, i would rather have more home games than road games.

~i love that luongo picture... awsome game...

Yeah, toward the end you want to have your home games with your stretch for the playoffs. But it gets the fans in a cheerful mood for teh nucks when its at home, like I said, people get mroe into the game during home games. I say start and end at home.
EDIT: The Canucks over time have been a very good home team.

away - lets them get their shit together (i know that's what the pre-season is SUPPOSED to do),
and lets them get to build up some camaraderie for the season.

I expect that they start out rusty. best to get that out of the way ont he road.

Yep, bad games on the road will not hurt as much as bad games at home.

Fewer distractions on the road. Makes for a good start.

Sometimes true. If you are someone like bertuzzi you just LOVE to be at home.
Wherever he goes he will get booed and that distracts him.
Also if you play a rival team, the crowd will get annoying on teh road.
The Flames for example ;]
But with non-rival opponents, there are no distractions.

For a team like Vancouver that is breaking in a new coach, new players, and new system, I'd prefer it on the road. Being away and living together builds comraderie, without the pressure of home crowds people are more focused on adapting to the system rather than putting on a good show, you don't need the hype of your home town crowd to get into it as the start of the season is generally exciting enough, and just when that adrenaline kicker is wearing off, the team can start to look forward to coming home, almost like two starts to the season, they get to do their hometown stuff after working the kinks out of the system, and the fans (whether the team is winning or losing) will be rabid to see them play, almost like the team was teasing them...
