Perhaps the Miller Horvat debate was misplaced.

Media is quick to post/brag about a players multi point games, but how often are they shut out on the score

The big differences are:

Pettersson was shut out of the scoring a dozen more games than Miller.

In the final stretch games of the season Miller had 21 pts (19 gms as he sat the final game of the season) and was off the score sheet 3 times. Pettersson had 14pts in 20 games and was off the score sheet 10 times (50% of the games).
I like it when stats support the eye test.

The question with Miller was the performance two years before he re signed when it was the petulant moody lackadaisical Miller, not the firery take no prisoners Miller. Which Miller are the Canucks getting.

To be clear, I saw room for both in the lineup and the move to rent Lindholm was because Bo was traded.

For shits and giggles, Bo had a Bo like year 33G and 38A, tied Nelson for the team lead in goals. The Islanders are a mid pack vet heavy team. Bo was his hot/cold self. I don't think these are anyway directly comparable to the Miller - Pettersson number because of the different teams, styles, division ... but make of them what you will ...

Yeah I can not comment on Horvat as I never really watched him play.

I meant perhaps the Miller vs Horvat thing should have been a Miller & Horvat vs Petey thing.

Relaible two way centre, decent streaky scorer, played well in front of the net or in the bumper on the PP. very good in the circle and a better than average penalty killer. Spent much of his early years as 3rd line centre and matched up against the opposition's best.

I edited my Miller/Pettersson post

I think Peter plays best with a big forward with decent wheels who can crash the net. He played well with JT. Mikeyhev is not that and neither is Hoglander. Why would you want to separate Joshua and Garland? He needs that big fella to take the heat off of him and draw some attention from the opposition defenders. Lawson Crouse would have been my choice to play alongside Peter, or Tommy Wilson. But they will cost. Are there any angry forwards out there on the UFA market? Toffoli isn’t that big but he goes to the greasy areas.

Either way Peter needs a running mate and hopefully he is 210 +

Petey should improve as he heads into his prime years.

Miller should decline over that same time frame.

The cap is set to explode in a few years.

All these things are taken into account in contract negotiations.

Running some quick 'Topper-like' numbers, and based somewhat on Todd's post mentioning Kuzmenko.

Before the Kuzmenko trade:
49GM.....27G.....37A.....64P....1.30PPG.....16 Zero point games (32%)

After the Kuzmenko trade:
33GM.....7G.....18A.....25P.....0.75PPG.....16 Zero point games (48%)

Not saying there's a direct correlation, but it's an interesting split.

How much of the pre trade games was Kuz in the press box? Or riding the fourth line?

Petey needs to go with shoot-first, dont' give a shit mentality

He's looking for perfect passes and perfect shot too often and that leads to hesitation and forced plays

Something's definitely up in his head

he knows, you know, we know, everyone knows he's struggling, but it's not like he isn't contributing or trying atm, he parks himself in front of the net all the time

Hope he regains confidence on this playoff run

Agree with all of this.

I think Petey will be fine as he grows up, gets a better head on his shoulders and hopefully helped along by Miller/Hughes. Maturity takes some longer than others.

He is a top 15 centre in this league. And they cost money. Van is lucky to have that locked up as the cap goes up. Imagine what Seattle will have to pay for Beniers when he is up? He will make as much or more than Petey...

When he loses his jam he can barely accept a simple pass like he's playing right now.

When he's on he's DatsyukGretzky dangling and deking highlight reel goals

The only space he's created in the past few months has been between his ears.

He's not the first to put up a career season, sign a huge contract and disappear.

I've been noting his MIA appearances all season.

He'll need to convince me he isn't a con.
