Yeah the Leaves, Flames, and Oilers can groan away.
The mongoloids are already rationalizing why Tanev's 4x4 is way better than Schmidt's 5x 5.95.
As Canucks fans are rationalizing whether Schmidt's a better fit at 5x$5.95 than OEL at 7x$8.25
I like it better this way.

Good for Benning to pull this part of it off, it's legit thievery. Now comes moving out dollars.
Damn rights. This is a solid acquisition. Kudos to Elmer. The guy he got is legit. In a vacuum I prefer him to OEL for this team’s needs, not to mention the acquisition cost and the cap hits. This guy ticks more boxes than OEL who is still a damn fine player.

I wonder if George McPhee who signed Schmidt out of college in 2012 asked him where he’d want to go. This seems pretty tidy, but I’ll take it.

A. Maybe I suck at math?
B. Maybe Ferland is going on LTIR?
C. Maybe moves to clear cap have to still be made?
D. All of the above?

He had a 10 team NTC and he very well could have given them everybody in cap jail and teams that have already ponied up (leaves,Flames,Oilers lol) but whispered Vancouver or bust. Him and Holtby are good buds and Beagle's solid guy so they're all tight. I agree, this is better than OEL IMO.

Tough losing Markstrom, Tanev, and Stecher out of the room but Holtby and Schmidt are really quality individuals and teammates. Really impressed Benning pulled this off. Hopefully he has the financial play worked out.

Ferland gives us an additional $3.5 that Cap Friendly doesn't account for in their total because our crack medical team hasn't shut him down for the season yet. But having cleared him to play four times in the past year with terrible results each time, this should be a slam dunk. You would think.

Ya, we're in better shape now then 4 hours ago. It's a good pick-up for a small cost going the other way.. Now we have a top four again.
Wonder if recent playoff memories helped out a bit here. Nate Schmidt is a very good defense man,,
Best thing of all is Quinn Hughes can relax a bit now. He must have been thinking MMM.
I just know there must be a big sigh of relief and a better feeling about things from the players who just lost four team mates.
It's part of the game but Tanev and Markstrom were very respected. This is what was needed.
Benn still sucks though. Needs to drop 30-or so. :P

So for the next 2 years, Holtby/Schmidt for $10.25 and Markstrom/Tanev for $10.5. Hard to argue with that.

Who'd you take?

I don’t know Curmudge, but I do know this - Jim Benning has one helluva Poker face. He made like Ali Rope da Dope against George Foreman once again. He’s a tactician.

If I did this right:

With Ferland on LTIR and if my estimates for Jake and Hockey Gaud aren’t far off, the Canucks will have $568,122 left in cap space. If Ferland is in the line-up they are over the cap.

I missed that detail. Even better haha; we flat out robbed Vegas on this one.

*re - Ferland and the LTIR, I don't think we would see the actual relief until after the season starts, I believe that is the way it works. I could be wrong?

They have us projected at $1.988, 922 in cap space in the Canucks roster section near the bottom. Ferland on LTIR would make that $5.488.922 I think. But I'm not sure whether the cap relief kicks in now or after the season begins. In other words, I don't know whether we can spend the difference yet?

If Ferland doesn’t plan to go on LTIR then Benning has about $500,000. Benning might already be done signing UFAs earning more than a million. So hockey trades might be the only way to improve the defence.
As ESQ pointed out, your numbers are wrong.

Look into dat dere, I'm logging off for the big Turkey Party today...
My bad, with Ferland they have 4.5m

Opps edit that. Have to subtract 1.7m rookie bonuses, so they have about 2.8m
Yeahno, we have more room than that still.

I don't know where you're going wrong but I suspect you're counting 25 players or so.

A bunch of teams will run with 22 players this year, a couple with maybe 21.

Not gonna sort through it with you tonight cuz I'm half in the bag, maybe after a pot of coffee one day soon...

Eat my shorts. I’m laughing at the meat puppets who think Elmer can do no wrong. He has no grasp of a salary cap at all.
I’m confident I understand the cap as well as anyone on this site.

I’m also confident you have as little understanding of the cap as anyone on this site.

You really should start to think about not making such of an ass of yourself.

It doesn't add up because: The "comments floating around about an internal cap" are 100% Grade A bullshit.

Canucks management does have a plan, Canucks management was fully prepared.

Yeah it doesn't add up but maybe go on Twitter and tell this guy. lol
