Imagine today if that would have happened? Disaster averted, fortunately Columbus saved Benning from himself. While necessary, it had to be a painful trade for Columbus. The Blue Jackets — trusting their instincts — disavowed conventional wisdom to select Dubois third overall in 2016. If they had taken Jesse Puljujarvi, Edmonton would have snared Mikhail Sergachev with the next pick and P.K. Subban would have been traded from Montreal to Vancouver so the Canadiens could grab Dubois. How much would be different?

Well quite frankly had they drafted Pooluparty they would have been stuck with a 3rd overall pick that turned into a 3rd line player.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:03 pm From Friedman's "31 Thoughts":

At least they got a couple years of decent production out of Dubois, and now they got a better player than Pulujarvi in Laine.
There's also the added bonus for all of us in that Dubois was a big piece of the Bluejackets squad that prevented Toronto from making the playoffs.

Well according to rumour, it was extremely unlikely Dubois would fall.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:03 pm From Friedman's "31 Thoughts":

It was one of those if-a-miracle-happens type of tentative trades.
There are a lot of these giant *IF* trades, 95% of which we never hear about.
Consider this: In that alternate universe of which you speak, Canucks would NOT have signed Loui.
No room with $9M on the books for Subban...
And don't forget, we would have gotten 3 years of FANTASTIC play from Subban and then traded him to the Devs for
... Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies, a 2nd round selection in 2019 and a 2nd round selection in 2020.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Lol a Subban at $9 million per year at the cost of Dubois is a worse individual transaction than an Eriksson at $6 million as an UFA that cost nothing but cap space.Strangelove wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 6:39 pmWell according to rumour, it was extremely unlikely Dubois would fall.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:03 pm From Friedman's "31 Thoughts":

Turned out great for the BJs and I'll always have a soft spot for them after they dismantled the Leaves. And god love Torts and his golden quotes re Dubois and players today.Meds wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:22 pmWell quite frankly had they drafted Pooluparty they would have been stuck with a 3rd overall pick that turned into a 3rd line player.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:03 pm From Friedman's "31 Thoughts":

"Have Luc and I had conflict? Goddamn right we've had conflict," Tortorella said of his relationship with Dubois prior to the trade. "If someone doesn't want to be here, that's a hard thing for me to stomach, quite honestly."
"I'll tell you this, I do think the athletes [today], it's a softer athlete. And the benching," Tortorella said of Dubois' final game with the club, in which a lackadaisical shift from the young pivot wound up being his last with the club, "I'd do it again."

On the bright side....Doobie has moved north just in time to shame the laughs out of it in the very next playoffs
You watch...winnipig will eliminate the laughs in round 1 on the back of doobie and his new merry men

Whistler could have had a couple of good seasons of Lindsey Vonn.

A good lil read back in 1998 Arthur Griffiths talks about almost trading for Wayne Gretzky for 5 1st rounders & a cool $22M bucks, we keep Linden, and Wayne wanted his pops in management and Wayne to be apart of ownership down the road.
https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks ... trade-1988
but noooooo, they didn't accept and signed Mark Messier the following offseason.

A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Actually it wasn’t so bad looking back. We only had HHOFer Mark Messier here for three years and he and Iron Mike Keenan dismantled the 1995-97 Country Club and ran Trevor Linden out of town to orchestrate one of the best trades the team ever made and a machete style tear down and rebuild that was long overdue.SKYO wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 12:59 pm A good lil read back in 1998 Arthur Griffiths talks about almost trading for Wayne Gretzky for 5 1st rounders & a cool $22M bucks, we keep Linden, and Wayne wanted his pops in management and Wayne to be apart of ownership down the road.

We could have been stuck with Wayne and Walter Gretzky and company for a lot longer than that.
We wan out of da time- James Elmer Benning

Still all the Messier shit didn't amount to a Championship in the end just the WCE, and who knows how Wayne Gretzky would have dominated further with Bure and Mogilny! sheesh.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:20 pmActually it wasn’t so bad looking back. No... the team was a mess that needed to be dismantled. McCabe ended up being a key piece for a twin and Bertuzzi ended up being the key piece for Roberto. Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
It's all hindsight, but the Canucks ultimately didn't win a championship when it was all said and done, Luongo was great but fell apart horribly vs Boston. The Sedins slowed the rebuild with their NTC's after.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:33 pmNo... the team was a mess that needed to be dismantled. Who knows what Wayne Gretzky could have done for this franchise while still in his prime, he scored 918 points in 8 seasons with the Kings.
Back in 1988 - The Great One would have had Skriko and Linden on his wings.
Reinhart scoring back to back 57pt seasons - too bad he had back issues & retired at 30yrs old. Doug Lidster, Smyl in his final years, Barry Pederson, Craig Adams, big burly Garth Butcher and Captain Kirk.
1994 we probably win the Stanley Cup with Gretzky and Bure.
