Eriksson is a better all around player than Baertschi.
Moving on from Baertschi is good news.It reflects depth.

It gives our young up and comers a roster spot to compete for.

You hate to see a guy lose a seat in an NHL dressing room so there is sympathy for the guy.

And I agree, I don’t see how erriksson is relevant to this move.

It reflects Benning has the balls to make the hard decisions a General Manager has to make.

And shockingly the gamble paid off as Baertschi is still with the team, albeit with Utica, so it's likely he'll be back in the near future when injuries occur, hell Motte is already hurt for two weeks.
- 10,000. It reflects that ownership is trying to harvest SOME VALUE from one of the leagues worst contracts. Louie the Air Thief is hopefully starting his last season here. It would be nice if they can ship his ass out when totally healthy and loan him to another team’s AHL squad. Maybe that organization has to make a move to accommodate Louie coming in. A guy can hope.

I have never seen so many people absolutely lose their shit over waiving a 3rd line, often injured tweener.
Who’s losing their shit here?
I think Micky had to wipe his back.
Why don't you make a concerted effort to stay the fuck off it for a spell.
No right to opine. sucks
Hey man I didn't say you don't have the right to lose your shit about something every other day...

I really am not going to get into an Eriksson debate because we all hate him - that's stated enough - however it's clear as night and day that he can play a two-way defensive game versus the players on waivers where no team wanted them for free.
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

Is it?

Does it?

Would it not be better to have him on the third line rather than those who currently are filling that position?

Despite all the talk about how great our bottom six guys are defensively, those bottom six had the worst goal differential in the league playing 5 on 5 last year. And how much have those bottom six changed since last year? Well, there is Leivo....

So does it make more since to keep the same players and style in the bottom six and hope that things magically get better for them or does having more depth in the top six mean that those who were previously in the top six should push the bottom six down rather than being pushed out themselves?
well, an improved defence will help that a bunch. And keeping guys who filled in on that line out while others were injured will also help. (improved depth)

Do players still need to go through recall waivers where a team can grab him at half price?
Nope.
Correct once they clear waivers, the team will have the ability to send them up and down waivers freely!
but after 10 NHL games played or 30 days on the NHL roster they'll need to clear again if they're sent down.
so we send Erickson every month is what I am reading?? (blind fantasy that someone takes him!).. perhaps he will work up a sweat carrying his luggage around.

Yeah I imagine Eriksson is on a short leash, he could be next on waivers if he doesn't produce much to go along with his defensive duties with MacEwen taking his spot.

it would be funny if he actually went down (assuming we have a suitable defensive winger replacement), he actually reported, then got into it with an AHL veteran and got just dummied for shitty efforts. a good old fashioned practice fight :D

https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/ ... t.2693069/

Man half of them are already predicting the Canucks to win and the other half are worried our rebuild is lapping them

Mike Smith in net supposedly...oh please let Petey come down that right wing and roast his ass on the first shot again...

What [improved top 6 quality] *should do is bring tougher match-ups for the 2nd line, rather than matching a 3rd/4th line against opposing team's top-line. Instead, opposing teams have to contend with our two scoring lines.

That means the "bottom 6" should face lower quality of competition. Alternatively, the additions Miller and Ferland could be moved to the bottom-6 and increase the offence.
I agree the top 6 is improved and I agree it makes the Canucks somewhat harder to match up against.

But what makes a team really hard to match up against is either two near elite lines — we don’t have that and we know that any team playing match games will focus on Pettersson — or three dangerous lines.

And the only way to get three dangerous lines is to move Miller
and Ferland down (or some combination of current top 6) and that requires players who can go up the lineup and succeed at going up. I’m not talking great players, I am talking 20 goal 45 point guys. That was one of my main points. Baertschi is capable of that simply by playing the way he has when healthy the past couple of years. I have more doubts about the rest of the alternatives, though acknowledge that Baertschi seems a knock away from retirement.

I too was hoping for 3 scoring lines but... c'est la vie.

Perhaps down the road?
