. I think it looks better now then a few days ago in regards to attracting a free agent defense man such as Myers or Gardiner.
With the young exciting core and players we have and now with the addition of a well respected player like J.T. Miller, it
indicates that the Canucks are serious about being a realistic contender sooner than later.
It may well also be beneficial if and when Louis Eriksson is removed from the roster as I feel it denotes that this will be a no bullshit
organization and THAT attracts the interest of desirable players..
Not sure we want to spend more than 6 (6.5?) on a long term (3+ years) contract on a UFA Dman. If you can get Myers or Gardiner's at that price, have a look. I think we are looking at the trade market or a second tier UFA for a defenceman. If Hughes is projecting to be a top pairing Dman, then we are looking for a 3-4 guy, not a 1-2 guy... so I guess we are looking for a 2-3 guy??
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.

Rick Dhaliwal

@DhaliwalSports
I have been told the #Canucks will meet with D Tyler Myers tomorrow in Vancouver when the UFA window opens.
3:47 PM - 22 Jun 2019
It just means going about the business of acquiring, or trying to, a high end defense man.
There will be more interviews and options.
Rumors gallor, I'm sure.

Pretty sure a couple Canuck trades have to happen before july 1st. They are at max contracts and if they're planning on signing anyone, they need to move out some players.

I'm curious, who was it that constantly talked about the fact that bad contracts on this team would not hinder what they needed to do?

Based on Cap Friendly, the Canucks only have 33 standard player contracts, not remotely close to 50. They have 9 RFAs and 2 UFAs to sign. The only marquee player is Boeser. Other than that, none of them are impact players (including Goldobin). Players like Schaller and Spooner can be sent to Utica if there are no takers. I do not believe that the Canucks are in a rush to ship players out, at least not until closer to the beginning of the season.

Geez Jovo, way to ruin a perfectly good narrative.

Yeah. We have lots of space left for more contracts. But, Micky is right that we need to move out some of our current contracts. We simply have way too many 3rd liners. We have 14 NHL players under contract (I included Boeser), and 4 more RFA's to sign/move. That's 18 guys! Ericksson, Spooner and Schaller can drop it to 15, but, we still have at least one more that needs to go after those 3. Granlund looks like the odd guy out, as Goldobin and Leivo still has upside potential. That might be too strong a belief. I think Goldobin and Leivo have the potential to still have upside potential. There. that's watered down properly. :)

My guess is Goldobin gets until Roussel is back to prove if he belongs.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Even if the Canucks sign both Myers and Nyquist, they are still under 110% of the cap and maximum contracts allowed. Like I mentioned, the Canucks need to move players but in no rush. Between now and the start of the season, a lot could be changed, especially after July 1.

We also need to see what Luongo does. If he retires we need to have a 2.8 cushion. If he medically retires we pick up $800,000 in potential cap relief if we hit the cap ceiling.
The only HW the Canucks need

Sure - first was not talking about # of contracts. Second, Canucks have $17.7M to spend, give or take a million. Boeser will sign $7M or $8M which leaves $10M to sign the players needed to fill the roster. If they sign a top FA D or 2 for $6M to $8M then where does that leave them? True you can send players like Spooner down but what cap relief do they get.

My comment was directed to the stupidity of ever saying bad contracts will not hinder this team, you never know what change in direction the team will have. Aqua is impatient and forcing JB to sign players now instead of at least waiting 1 more year.
