You make room for a top player in the game. Karlssons future salary wouldn’t be an issue for a decent GM to figure out. Then again good GMs don’t have payrolls riddled with garbage pulling in 3-6 million per on long term deals

Lol Stone has averaged ten more points a year and is three years younger and a much better two way player. Yes they are exactly the same.
First, that's not true, Stone averages more PPG and fewer GPG. So we can quibble about a couple points, but it doesn't change the fact that Stone is a 50-60 point top-line winger, and so is Hoffman. It also doesn't change the fact that Stone is a UFA in 10 months.
Duchene has averaged five more points and plays a more important position in addition to being to years younger. He has played for Team Canada in a best on best. When has Hoffman been considered to participate for Team Canada in a best on best?
Funny, I had totally forgotten that, but you're right, Duchene in his career year (4 years ago) managed to make it on Team Canada and dress for a whopping 4 games, scoring 0 goals with 0 assists.

Of course, Hoffman was a rookie in 13/14, and not eligible for the Olympics in 17/18, but I'm sure that was a very good point, Blob.

The fact is, 1sts don't get thrown out at the deadline for wingers on expiring contracts. Look at E Kane - a rental was worth a 4th, an extension was worth a late-1st. Stastny was the only pending-UFA who got a 1st at the deadline last year, and frankly I doubt Duchene's value will be as high as Stastsny's.

I agree that Karlsson should net 2x1sts++, but I it would take a miracle for any GM to get a 1st for either of Stone or Duchene.

My main point was that San Jose got a better return a half-hour later for Hoffman than Doiron was able to get after weeks of trying to trade him. IMO, this is because every GM knows that Doiron is in an extremely weak position - terrible team, terrible owner, dysfunctional dressing room, etc. etc.

Unfortunately for Doiron, the terrible Duchene trade is going to define him, and if/when Duchene walks, it will likely cost him his job. Frankly I'm amazed he still has a job, but Melnyk must know he can't find a replacement who will go to that dumpster fire.

I'm still praying that Tampa steps up and gets Karlsson, if only to ensure that Toronto never makes it out of the 2nd round

I think you knew I meant points per game but if not.....

Evander Kane returned a 2nd and 4th which became a 1st because the Sharks signed him to a deal.

I probably should have said that all these players will net a good return which could become substantially better( especially in the case of EK) if the acquiring team can extend them.

Now we we have derailed another thread thanks to Dude.

Either way I don’t think getting a first for both Duchene and Stone will be any sort of miracle considering the guys who have been dealt for firsts in the past few years.

I don't think you guys derailed this at all... just a segueway. Either way, it's nice to see some reasonable opinions and discussions during a slow summer.

The Young Stars tournament is less than a month away!
Try to focus on 1 year from now...

Were there not just 3 Karlsson tire kickers in Dallas, Vegas and Tampa? I don’t think the Karlsson interest is as hot cakes as you think it is Blub, for a myriad of reasons, cap, cost, not wanting to sign an extension, after a trade, and gutting the future/mortgaging the farm. It Might explain the lame offers Ottawa was getting, that is unless you think Foote, a 30th overall pick and a 60th overall pick is a stellar return for one of leagues best defenceman, if not thee

Nobody knows what the offers were. Where did you hear this offer? The Cobalt?

He’s a top 10 player in the NHL at 28. If he will agree to an extension the return could be huge.

I feel like I’m talking to a wall

What if Gillis had drafted Karlsson instead of Stumpy Legs?

Would have been a great pick.

What is Elmer had drafted Tkachuk instead of Olaf

What if Gillis drafted Rakell instead of Niklas Jensen? Rakell went to Anaheim right after Jensen

What if Gillis had not acquired Ballard and drafted Kuznetsov?

Not going to let Dude throw his dirty diapers around and pollute another thread. It’s about the 2019 draft.

Any Islanders get a chance to see Alex Newhook play?

Assuming this team doesn’t get any lottery luck, but they should still pick high due to a lack of NHL talent, he could be right in Vancouver’s wheelhouse. Ditto for Bowen Byram

Isn’t it easier to make a deal now for another 1st before the season starts, especially to a team like the Oilers? If we wait until December or TDD then teams in bottom 10 won’t be moving their pick.
