True, but keeping space at least gives you the option.

Some just say it doesn’t matter that the genius overpaid because we don’t need cap space. :mex:

We've got a trade to announce... a real one, not a SKYO production

To Arizona:

Marian Hossa
Vincent Hinostroza
Jordan Oesterle
Third-round pick (2019)

To Chicago:

Marcus Kruger
MacKenzie Entwistle
Jordan Maletta
Andrew Campbell
Fifth-round pick (2019)
Good reason why you keep cap space when you are rebuilding.
While I’m all for using excess cap space, I’m not sure I would do this deal from a Phoenix perspective. Hossa’s contract is dead money as we all know, but I wasn’t a big fan of Hinostroza when I watched him last year. Oesterle is a depth guy and upgrading to a 3rd from a 5th is decent I guess.

In return Kruger was better on the Hawks than he was in AZ, while the rest of them are likely AHL depth. It’s basically Hossa, Hinostroza and a 3rd for Kruger and a 5th. I’m not sure there’s enough value there to take on 3 more years of Hossa’s deal. If that’s the return I’d rather keep my powder dry.
I agree that value isn’t worth it. It’s hard to beat the budget teams.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Ottawa can't afford a huge signing bonuses contract for Karlsson like Tavares gets $40M in signing bonuses in his first 3 years of the deal.
Ottawa Too Poor to Afford Erik Karlsson

A report by Chris Stevenson of The Athletic suggests the reason Erik Karlsson rejected the Ottawa Senators’ eight-year contract offer was the lack of signing bonuses so prevalent in new NHL deals. Stevenson notes that while the actual offer was quite close to the Drew Doughty deal, the signing-bonus money was not anywhere near Doughty’s and newly signed John Tavares. The $11 million per year was there but not up front.

There wasn’t much in the way of upfront money in the form of signing bonuses, which, for me, was the most interesting part of the deal free agent John Tavares signed with the Toronto Maple Leaves. There have always been big signing bonuses in deals, but they are even more significant right now with the threat of another work stoppage on the horizon.

source “Lack of signing bonuses may have been factor in Erik Karlsson turning down Senators contract offer:”
– Chris Stevenson- The Athletic

Edler - Karlsson
Hughes - Tanev

Hey? say goodbye to Olli Juolevi, Gaudette and a 1st +++ filler pieces.

Powerplay #1:
Dahlen - Pettersson - Boeser
Hughes - Karlsson

Canucks season tickets sold out in two days.

Our 1st, Juolevi and Gaudette for Karlsson… yeahno. Two years from now with maybe Rathbone instead of Gaudette and Juolevi and our 2023 1st rounder and I would see some logic in such a deal. Considering where this roster is at in its life cycle, dealing for Karlsson now is premature. I say no to Karlsson now unless it's a ridiculous bargain.

Ya I agree with you - this wasn't a hockey trade, this was a cheap owner getting an insured contract to get to the cap floor.

I wonder what it would take to get Trouba out of Winnipeg. They have $20 mil in cap space, but a butt load of RFAs need contracts, and next year Laine and Connor are looming large.

Trouba is injury prone just as much as Tanev though.

Ryan Pulock or Cal Foote imo should be some key targets to try to acquire. (younger/big fellas/right side dman/with a good shot and can play some meaningful minutes), basically try to get a future top pairing going in the next few years with Hughes - ______.

Re: How to trade Loui Eriksson

Post by SKYO » Mon Jul 16, 2018 1:00 pm

During the 2016 UFA season lets look at who might have been in on Loui Eriksson.
Jimmy Murphy:

Hearing #Panthers NOT in on Loui Eriksson sweepstakes. #NHLFreeagency

I'd keep eye on #Wings #Habs #Blues #Sharks and #Devils
Kosta Papoulias:
30 Jun 2016: #Habs busy trying to acquire either Loui Eriksson or Perron.

Word is #Habs offered Eriksson 4 yrs / $24M. Makes sense from 35+ perspective.
Dreger: #SJSharks, #stlblues, #Habs have shown some interest in Eriksson.
Jonathan Bernier:
1 Jul 2016

Bergevin and Loui Eriksson's agent had several chats (combine and draft). Mutual interest. #CH #habs
2016 Montreal Canadiens free agency targets: Loui Eriksson could be just what the Habs need.
A solid two-way winger, Loui Eriksson may be the missing piece in the Habs' top-six.

Seems to me Loui Eriksson and the Montreal Habs almost came to a deal, both parties have mutual interest in each others services, but the Canucks came in with a couple extra years on the deal.

So if we were to move Eriksson to help create roster space for the rising tide of younger wingers, I'd look into making a deal with the Habs for Loui, he'd likely waive his NTC for the Habs.

You keep trying, Skyo, and most assuredly I, for one, appreciate it but the mop, (LE), has entrenched himself and his brood of moppets
in our town and until the law of his writ permits it, he aint leaving.
Least that would be my guess.

They’d have to retain salary to move his sorry ass. I’d think Aquilini is getting tired of retaining salary and buying out poor contracts. Then again I’m shocked he let Elmer sign guys to more than one or two year deals this past July 1st so I guess anything is possible with this outfit.

I say Gagne is dealt with retention for a good return.

Yeah Gagner would pretty easy to deal, has a reliable 40pt per season resume, only two years left on deal, right shot center/winger.
