Granlund isn’t a very good player. He’s soft, slow and hes 26. The reason he plays up and down the lineup here is because we have no depth. He’s a 4th line player. Tanev has a year and change left on his contract and while he’s a good player he’s pushing 30 and is injured a lot. Colorado could easily get a better player(s) from 20 other teams for that pick
I guess we disagree.
Granlund is versatile. He scored 19 with the twins. If he has skill to play with, he can play top 6 for a short time. He can handle 2nd PP and PK. He is a very good shut down guy (granny-Sutter-Dorset was awesome). He plays all 3 forward positions, and is an ok face off guy. For his contract, as a utility player for depth, he adds value to any playoff team.
Tanev is Tanev. An elite shutdown defenceman who is on top of his game and been skating better this last month or so than he has in years. Is right handed, which also adds value.
The conditional pick(s?) adds the value
Every team has injuries, that's why teams overpay to load up at the TDD. It happens less these days than 5-6 years ago, but it still happens when GM's are trying to impress someone (Fan bases or owners).
If we knew what pick we were getting, (ie. first overall) the price would be higher, but nobody's gonna pay more than that when it's only for 4th (with our draft luck- 6th)
What's a pick in the 3-8 range worth to you?
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.
